Zachary R. Clyde – Obituary

Petersburgh – Zachary Ryan Clyde passed away August 18, 2022 at the age of 28. He was born in Stephentown, NY to Claude and Terri Clyde.

Zach was a very compassionate, kind, peaceful, generous, and humble young man. Everyone who met him loved him. He could light up a room while making you feel welcome and loved. Zach loved the outdoors and could always be found partaking in his favorite pastimes, hunting and fishing. Zach was always excited to get in the woods on opening day or to get a pole in the water on a beautiful day. More than anything, Zach loved being a Dad and his son Mason was his entire world. Walter A. Brenenstuhl – Obituary

North Petersburgh – Walter A. Brenenstuhl passed from this life, at the age of 90, on Wednesday, August 3 2022.

Walter was born in Albany, NY on February 8, 1932 and was a son of the late Frederick and Gertrude (Rudd) Brenenstuhl. He spent his formative years in North Petersburgh where he was educated in a two room school house. He later graduated from the former Walter Wood High School in Hoosick Falls. Walter worked in the family store known as the Y Store at the intersection of Routes 22 and 346 in North Petersburgh and also worked on the railroad in Petersburgh. He served our nation during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged on April 1, 1955 and returned home to North Petersburgh. Welcoming New Girl Scouts

Local Girl Scout Service Unit 154 would like to welcome your girls to join Girl Scouts this year. We will be holding meetings after school for grades K through 5 in the elementary school, and will choose the day of the week when all registrations have been received. We have other troops in place but are happy to create new ones depending on the interest. Please call Robin Conner at the Girl Scout council at 518-489-8110 x153 and she will be able to help you get registered and get you into a troop in our area.

Thomas K. Rose, Jr. – Obituary

Petersburgh – Thomas Kenneth Rose, Jr. (Ken), 92, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022. Ken was born on May 14, 1930, in Albany, NY to Violet Ingraham Rose and Thomas Rose, Sr. Ken was a jokester who treasured his family and always gave to those in need. From 1951 to 1953, Ken served as a paratrooper in the 11th 503rd Airborne Division of the United States Army. For 32 years, he worked for the Arsenal in Watervliet, NY, ending his career as a locomotive specialty mechanic. He was a DAV life member, a Star Lodge 670 member, and a member of the Masons. New Assistant Principal

The Berlin Central School District is pleased to welcome Mrs. Jodi Cataldo as Berlin Elementary School’s Assistant Principal.

Mrs. Cataldo has spent the past eight years teaching first grade at Turnpike Elementary School in Troy, as well as teaching kindergarten, fourth grade and Middle School Response to Intervention (RTI).

She completed her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education at the College of Saint Rose and earned a master’s degree in Reading from the University of Albany.

Mrs. Cataldo enjoys spending time with her husband, Sean, and four children, exploring different hiking trails, paddle boarding and visiting national parks. Additionally she enjoys reading, playing golf, volunteering in the community and cheering on her kids on the soccer field. ARPA Funding Requests

At the Monday, June 20 regular meeting of the Petersburgh Town Council three different groups gave presentations to the Council requesting American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. The first proposal, which was prepared by the Friends of Petersburgh History and submitted by Town Historian Peter Schaaphok, requested funds for the purpose of preserving the original Town record books, if possible, and making a replica and digital copy of the books for public viewing. Items needed include a laptop, scanner and external hard drive. The requested items total $7,660.37 but an anonymous resident has offered to donate $3,000 towards the cause. Board of Education Highlights

All internal and external cameras have been installed at the Middle/High School, with the cameras for the Elementary School expected to be installed over the summer. Access control door installation is also expected be completed over the summer.

Superintendent Joseph Dhara has been in discussions with Rensselaer County about a School Resource Officer (SRO), and will update the Board as more information becomes available.

Berlin CSD will be participating in the Stop Arm Program. This is a free program through Rensselaer County that will install cameras inside and outside of buses. If someone passes the bus when the stop sign is out it will take a picture of the vehicle and send it to the Sheriff’s office.

The District is getting a Raptor system for visitor check-in. With the system, visitors to the building will need to provide identification that will be scanned to produce a name tag. The system should be available shortly.

Berlin Central School – Propane Conversion Project

At the Wednesday, May 18 regular meeting of the Berlin Central School District Board of Education (BOE), what was intended to be a presentation to establish a budget, funding source and schedule for the propane conversion project at the middle/high school, turned into a conversation about fast tracking the project to complete it as soon as possible.

Marion K. Manchester – Obituary

Petersburgh – Marion Katherine Manchester, 98, died peacefully, slipping from the bonds of earth to be with her savior Jesus in Heaven, on Friday, May 13, 2022 at the Center for Living & Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls.

She was born in Rensselaer, NY on August 11, 1923, the daughter of the late Henry and Catherine Monsees Trinemeyer. Her mother passed away in 1928 and due to the depression Marion and her 3 siblings were placed in the Troy Orphan Asylum. She grew up there until the age of 15 when they were all placed together in a foster home in West Stephentown. Marion was a graduate of Berlin High School, class of 1941, then went on to graduate from Berkshire Business College. Petersburgh – Elaine Marie Jones left this world behind on January 2, 2022. Elaine was born March 3, 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland from two of the most wonderful people ever, Mary and Owen Ringwald. She grew up in Wilmington, Delaware, where she brought her tireless spunk and energy to the home she shared with her three surviving brothers, John, Art and Alan. She is also survived by Woody Gillies and their three children, Bonnie, Ian and Daniel; her children’s spouses/partners John, Christine and Julie; eight grandchildren, David, Michael, Allison, Stephen, Amy, Abigail, Nate and Jace; three great-grandchildren, Madeline, Theodore and Rosie; and her husband Don.
