Cottage Industries

The September meeting of the Taconic Valley Historical Society of Petersburgh and Berlin will be on the Cottage Industries of the Taconic Valley. Everyone is invited to bring stories and pictures to share of the in-home family businesses that their parents, grandparents or great-grandparents ran to make that extra income for the family. The meeting will be held Monday, September 19 at 7:30 pm, Berlin First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 15 North Main St., Berlin and is open to the public free of charge. You do not have to be a member to attend. Refreshments will be served.

Service Dedicated To All Who Lost Their Lives On 9-11

A 9/11 Memorial Parade and Service was held on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Hoosick Falls. A parade began at the Hoosick Falls Firehouse, went down Main Street and ended at Wood Park. The parade consisted of area first responders and their equipment, Boy and Girl Scouts, bagpipers, clergy, politicians, American Legion members and community band members. There were about 15 emergency vehicles in the parade from all around the area. First responders traveled from as far away as West Sand Lake. Many Questions Answered At PFOA Meeting

The C-8 Group in Petersburgh held a very successful meeting on PFOA issues on Tuesday September 6 at the PVMCC. There was a large panel of experts there, including DEC Region 4 Director Keith Goetz and three others from DEC, three from NYS Dept. of Health, two from the EPA, and four from the County, including Kathy Jimino, Stan Brownell, Mary Fran Wachunas and Rich Elder.

State Senate Hearing On PFOA Exposes Conflict Between NYS DOH and USEPA

DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos said at the State Senate Hearing held at the Hoosick Falls Central School High School auditorium that the State has spent $25 million already responding to the PFOA crisis and expects over the next ten years to spend another 50 million. He said his goal is to make the polluters pay the entire (projected) cost of $75 million, but he added that he expects EPA to reimburse New York State for any part of it that is not paid by the polluters.
