Patrick Russo Wins Rensselaer County Republican Sheriff’s Primary

Rensselaer County Undersheriff Patrick Russo was the easy winner in the primary contest for the Republican line for County Sheriff.  Russo turned back the challenge of former Sheriff’s Department employee Scott Ryan, garnering nearly 65 percent of the vote county wide.  According to the Board of Elections, the breakdown per town was pretty much along the same line. FERC Extends Scoping Comment Period For Gas Pipeline Project

To Address Adult Literacy Crisis

On September 8, the world will mark the 48th annual International Literacy Day to remind us all that reading, writing, and basic math remain an elusive target for nearly 800 million adults around the globe, including one in six adults in the United States. In Rensselaer County, thousands of adults struggle with low literacy, leading to limited access to employment and other opportunities. Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County (LVORC) is part of a national network of organizations that work every day to end the adult literacy crisis. Restoration Of Remarkable Headstone Of Dr. Philander H. Thomas, Born In Stephentown And Former Sandlake Supervisor, Offers A Window Into Local History

On August 8 Joe Ferrannini of Hoosick Falls-based Grave Stone Matters repaired the headstones  in the “Old” Mount Ida Cemetery of several people of historical significance who had ties to eastern Renssaelear County, including Dr. Jeffery W. Thomas and Dr. Philander H. Thomas of West Sand Lake, and his wife, Laura Hull Thomas. Her grandfather was Lt. Rensselaer County Sheriff Jack Mahar’s Corrections Division Receives Accreditation From NYS Sheriffs’ Association
