Upcoming Capital District Friday Field Group Outings

The Capital District Friday Field Group, formed in 1993, is a mix of amateur and professional naturalists that meets weekly on Fridays at 5:30 pm between April and September to explore the natural features of sites in the Capital Region.  The trips are free, and the public is welcome.  Upcoming Trips:
June 1 – Petersburgh/Berlin – Scout a yet to be chosen site for wildflowers in the Petersburgh-Berlin area. Meet at the Baptist Church in Petersburgh at the junction of NY Rt. 22 and NY Rt. 2 then carpool to the site. The contact is Chuck Kieweg, 794-7598.
June 8 – Hren Property near Queechy Lake, Canaan.  Survey for interesting mixed flora. Meet to car pool at the White Church on Corner of NY Rt. 20 and 22 in New Lebanon. The contact is Chuck Kieweg 794-7598.

Honoring Veterans At The Schaghticoke Fair

To benefit the Veterans Hall at The Schaghticoke Fair there will be a table set up at two events this Spring. The first event, at which the Veterans Hall Committee will be present, is the Pet Festival held at the Schaghticoke Fair on May 20, from 10 am to 3 pm, which will include a bake sale to raise money for expanding the displays.

Rensselaer County Legislature – May 2012

Honoring Joan Rogers

In March the Rensselaer County Legislature passed a resolution memorializing Joan Rogers of Hoosick Falls. She died on January 22, 2012. At Tuesday’s session of the Legislature nine members of the extended family of Joan Rogers appeared in the well of the Legislature to receive copies of the resolution honoring her. District Five Legislators Stan Brownell and Lester Goodermote, who represent the towns of Stephentown, Berlin, Petersburgh, Grafton, Hoosick and the Village of Hoosick Falls, made the presentation.

Tree Planting At The Eagle Bridge Boat Launch

Several members of the Rensselaer Land Trust, plus the Tamarac High School Biology Club, DEC and other volunteers, planted 300 trees and shrubs last Saturday, May 5, at the Hoosic River Boat Launch in Eagle Bridge. The plants were donated by the DEC nursery in Saratoga.

Rensselaer Land Trust May Outings

The public is invited to attend.
On Saturday, May 12, from 1 to 4 pm, bring the family to Papscanee Island Nature Preserve to experience the thrill of catching fish with a seine, or dragnet, and discover what lives under the surface of the Hudson River. The Veterans Hall At The Schaghticoke Fair Needs Donations

Donations or loans of memorabilia such as pictures, uniforms, brochures, medals, gas masks, names, etc., for the time period of the Civil War through to the current war are needed to expand the display to honor all Rensselaer County Veterans.
