Rensselaer Land Trust May Outings

The public is invited to attend.
On Saturday, May 5, at 10 am volunteers are needed for the third annual tree planting gathering at the public boat launch at the Rensselaer Land Trust’s Hoosic River property in Eagle Bridge. NYS DEC is providing seedlings for landscaping and erosion control. Bring gloves, a shovel, a bucket, a snack and a drink. We will work regardless of weather. The boat launch is about one mile west of Eagle Bridge on the north side of Route 67 at the DEC sign. Agricultural Tailgate Sale

On Sunday, May 6, the Brunswick Grange will hold its annual Spring Agricultural Tailgate Sale at the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds, Rt. 67 & 40, Schaghticoke, from 8 am to 12:30 pm. More than 50 vendors will offer varieties of ducks, chickens, geese, pigeons, plants, flowers and other agricultural items. $15 per vendor. To be held rain or shine, refreshments available. Child Left On School Bus

A three year old child supposed to be attending Capital District Beginnings preschool in Berlin on Monday, April 16, was instead left on a bus alone for three hours. New York State Police reported that the bus, owned by Northland Transportation, dropped several students off at Capital District Beginnings in Berlin at approximately 9 am.  The child did not get off the bus and was not noticed by the driver or monitor.  [Read more…] about Child Left On School Bus

Hoosick Falls Is Second In County Annual Water Taste Test Contest

County Executive Kathleen Jimino announced the results of the County’s annual Water Taste Test Contest held on April 17 at the University of Albany’s School of Public Health. The contest allows public water suppliers from throughout the County to compete against one another to see which one the residents and visitors who sampled the water would select as the best tasting.

Rensselaer County Legislature – Tickets In Petersburgh

In an interview after the Rensselaer County Legislature’s session on Tuesday, District 5 Legislators Stan Brownell and Lester Goodermote reported that they had received complaints from their constituents about tickets being given by State Police to truckers on Route 22 at the Route 2 overpass in Petersburgh. District 5 includes the towns of Stephentown, Berlin, Grafton, Petersburgh, Hoosick and the Village of Hoosick Falls.

Beryl Moul Scholarship

The Beryl H. Moul Memorial Grange Scholarship was established in 1958 by West Sand Lake Grange #949 in memory of prominent Grange Member Beryl H. Moul.  Applicants must be Rensselaer County residents (for at least 4 years) and must be accepted in an accredited 2 or 4 year college program pursuing a career in agriculture, home economics, nursing, natural resource management, environmental engineering or pharmacology.
