Luis Weierbach At Youth Summit

The County sponsored Youth Summit event at the Troy Hilton Garden Inn was attended by approximately 200 students from throughout Rensselaer County who have created and participated in programs in their schools aimed at keeping their peers from using drugs or alcohol. 4-H Teen Council Auction

The Rensselaer County 4-H Teen Council will host its annual Auction, Friday, April 27, at Brittonkill Elementary School, Route 2 in Brunswick. Doors open at 6:30 pm, bidding starts at 7 pm. Auction items will include new and used items, merchandise and gift certificates donated by Rensselaer County businesses and theme baskets designed and donated by 4-H Clubs throughout the County. Dinner and refreshments will be available.

Rensselaer Land Trust April Events

On Saturday, April 14, at 2 pm, James Bell, hydraulic energy consultant, will lead a free tour and talk about waterfalls and hydroelectric plants. The driving and walking tour will include the 1908 hydroelectric plant in Schaghticoke, another plant in Middle Falls and two plants in Greenwich. Greenway Check Presented At Berry Patch

Rensselaer County’s Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan got a boost Tuesday in the form of a check from the Hudson River Valley Greenway. The check was presented at the Berry Patch of Stone Wall Hill Farm in Stephentown in view of the fact that that farm received farmland protection in 2009 aided by a grant from the State’s farmland protection program. Changes In The Hudson River

The Rensselaer Land Trust invites the public to attend a free presentation entitled, “Changes in the Hudson River over the Last 150 Years,” delivered by Dan Miller, Habitat Restoration Coordinator with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Hudson River Estuary Program, to be held at 7 pm on Thursday, March 29, at the East Greenbush Library. Miller will speak about his work identifying opportunities to restore important habitats in the Hudson River Estuary.

Forestry Workshop In New Lebanon

“The Future of Your Woods and Wildlife” will be held on Saturday, March 24. The day long workshop will help landowners get the most out of their woodland and address some of the issues facing woodland owners today. Topics will include forest ecology and management, effects of deer and resources to help landowners. There will also be information addressing the local ecology, which will be of particular interest to Taconic Mountain landowners where the workshop will be held.

Woman Rescued From Walloomsac River

Deputy Matthew Trolio of the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at 2 am, Friday, March 2, and assisted in the rescue of a woman who had fallen into the Walloomsac River on Factory Hill Road in Hoosick. Rensselaer County Legislature – HFCS Girls Rule

While their parents, relatives and friends filled the gallery of the Legislative Chamber during the presentation period of the Rensselaer County Legislature’s regular meeting on Tuesday, February 14, the Hoosick Falls State Class C Co-Championship Girls Soccer Team entered the well of the Legislature with their coach to receive copies of the resolution passed in December honoring their season’s achievements. Legislators Brownell and Goodermote made the presentation to the 17 members of the team present on Tuesday.
