Greenway Approves $10,000 Grant For Rensselaer Plateau Study

Mark Castiglione, Acting Executive Director of the Hudson River Valley Greenway, announced the approval of a $10,000 Greenway matching grant to the Town of Nassau, a Greenway Community, for the development of a regional economic impact study of the Rensselaer Plateau region.

Registration For Holiday Workshops At Tamarac HS Closes Next Week

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rensselaer County will present Holiday Workshops on Wednesday, November 9, at Tamarac High School. Three hands-on holiday projects will be offered. Registration for a one-hour workshop is $10 or $5 for enrolled 4-H volunteers. Registration will open at 6:15 pm. Sessions will begin at 6:30 pm

McElheny Acquitted In Death Of Daughter

Hoosick Falls resident Joseph McElheny was acquitted Wednesday on eight of nine charges in the death of his daughter Ina McElheny. The jury was deadlocked on the charge of endangering the welfare of a child, and a mistrial was declared by Judge Andrew Ceresia on that charge.

Rensselaer County Legislature – Frozen Government

It was cold enough to freeze a witch’s broomstick in the Chambers during Tuesday evening’s regular meeting of the Rensselaer County Legislature. By the end of the meeting the temperature in the large room was 57 degrees. People started stamping their feet, not in political protest but just to stay warm. County Legislature Recognizes Hoosick Falls Girl Scouts’ Remembrance Quilt

Members of the Rensselaer County Legislature welcomed two Hoosick Falls Girl Scouts who designed a special remembrance quilt for the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
The quilt was designed by Sarah Sigot and Tiffany St. Hilaire and includes depictions of American ideals and values and events that occurred during the terrorist attacks.

Disaster Recovery Centers To Close

State and federal Disaster Recovery Centers in five New York counties will close soon, according to officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The facility in Rensselaer at 127 Blooming Grove Drive, Troy, will end operations at the close of business on Saturday, October 1.

Safe Seniors Triad Conference On September 24

County Executive Kathleen M. Jimino has announced that the 10th annual TRIAD Conference will be on Saturday, September 24, from 9 am to 2:30 pm at the Bulmer Telecommunications Center located on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.  TRIAD is a partnership of Senior Citizens, service providers and law enforcement agencies working together to prevent the criminal victimization of seniors as well as provide information on healthy lifestyles.
