Penny Social In Brunswick

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Brunswick Elks will hold their Annual Penny Social on Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 1-4 PM. Doors open at 11AM. Repairs Of Route 2 And Other Roads Crucial for Eastern Rensselaer County

Rensselaer County Legislature Vice Chairman Stan Brownell and Legislator Lester Goodermote said today that repairs of State Route 2 in Grafton and other areas is crucial to eastern Rensselaer County.
Sections of Route 2 were washed away or broken up by the weekend storm and the loss of the road creates a major obstacle for residents and small businesses in the area. Approximately 1,500 feet of the road surface was damaged and needs complete replacement.

Travel Advisory: Route 2 In Grafton To Be Paved

Motorists are advised that alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers will be in effect on Route 2 from Route 278 in Cropseyville to the east end of Dumbleton Road in Grafton for paving operations. The work will begin on Monday, August 29, and is expected to continue until the end of September. Work will occur Monday through Friday between 6:30 am and 6 pm. Motorists should expect delays and consider alternate routes.

Stephentown Sex Offender Arrested

Rensselaer County Sheriff, Jack Mahar, today announced the Sheriff’s Office has arrested four sex offenders in the past four weeks including the re-arrest of a violent, Level 3, repeat sex offender who abducted and sexually abused a 13-year-old girl in 1976.
Albert L. Davenport, 60, was arrested last week for possession of pornographic photographs on his laptop computer. The photos were of children whose ages ranged from 3 to 13 years old.  Davenport was supposed to be living in Stephentown on Route 43. The Sheriff said he changed his address and failed to report it.

Route 43 Shut Down Will Add To Commuter Delays

Due to road construction on NYS Route 2, Grafton folks have been finding it a slow go lately getting to destinations in the Albany/Troy area. Stephentown commuters can soon join the club. As of Monday, August 15, the State Transportation Department (NYSDOT) will shut down a stretch of Route 43 to replace a large culvert near Reno Road in the Town of Nassau. The road at that spot got washed out by the flooding that occurred in the summer of 2009 and was temporarily repaired.

Rensselaer County Legislature – Hoosick Falls Property Turned Over To Neighbor

At its regular meeting on Tuesday, August 9, the Rensselaer County Legislature turned over the property at 43-45 Center Street in the Village of Hoosick Falls to Thomas  P.  Dooley,  Jr.,  the owner of  the adjacent  real property. Tsatsawassa Pig Roast

On Saturday, August 20, the Tsatsawassa Protective Fire Company Inc. will hold its 23rd Annual Pig Roast on the Fire House grounds located just off Route 20 in the hamlet of Brainard. Doors will open at 1 pm, and the afternoon will be filled with fun events including door prizes and games as well as hot dogs, sausage, hamburgers and drinks. All the while the whole pig covered with foil, will be roasting on the spit in view of the attendees.

County Veterans Hall Still Seeking Donations

The Schaghticoke Fair Fund-Raising Committee is continuing its efforts to convert a section of the Freihofer’s Building at the Fairgrounds into a Veterans Hall. They are seeking donations to purchase one more flagpole to place in front of the current Freihofer’s Building – for a total of six – one for each branch of the service and one for the American flag. We have funds for five. The Committee thanks the community  for its help thus far.
