American Red Cross Goal Reached

The Town of Hoosick Republican Club sponsored its yearly blood drive on Columbus Day, October 11, at the North Hoosick Fire Department. The American Red Cross provides a goal for the event, and once again that goal was met, thanks to the many residents who gave blood and the team effort of the Republican party.  Many lives can be saved with the blood donated. Michael Drogos, Jr. Graduates From Marine Boot Camp

Michael Drogos, Jr. graduated from the United States Marine Corps Recruit Training Depot in Parris Island, SC, on October 15. Mike was a June 2010 graduate from the Berlin Jr./Sr. High School and entered basic training on July 19.  After a brief visit home, Mike will attend one month Marine combat training in North Carolina and then begin his military schooling in Quantico, Virginia, where he will study Intelligence as his military specialty field. Mike is the son of Michael Drogos, Sr. of Grafton and Heather Fry of Sand Lake, NY.

Holiday Art Fair At SLCA

The Sand Lake Center for the Arts presents its annual Holiday Art Fair on Saturday, November 6, from 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday, November 7, from 12 to 4 pm. This outstanding and fabulous fine art fair is designed to showcase the craft of over 20 fine artists and to offer the unique opportunity to peruse and purchase original works of pottery, sculpture, paintings, photography, jewelry, felt and cloth accessories, glass blown items, and much more. There is plenty of free parking and no admission fee.

Gallivan Withdraws Offer; Berlin Board To Consider Purchase Resolution

On Tuesday, October 5, Berlin Town Supervisor Rob Jaeger received a telephone call from Laurie Leckonby of the Kinderhook Group, a realty company in East Chatham representing Berlin Lumber, informing him that S.M. Gallivan of Brunswick had withdrawn its offer to purchase the Berlin Lumber property on Route 22 in Center Berlin. Since July of 2009 the Town of Berlin has debated, sometimes heatedly, whether to purchase the property for use as a municipal center and has held two referenda on the issue. Rensselaer County Emergency Services Memorial Ceremony

Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen M. Jimino will join with community leaders and other locally elected officials at a memorial service to honor the men and women of emergency services who have passed away in the last year. The service will begin at 3 pm on Sunday, October 3.  The event will take place at the Maureen Stapleton Theater located on the Hudson Valley Community College campus in Troy.  Family members of those being honored and members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend.

Tea Party Strength In Primaries Includes Eastwick Area

Tea Party supporter Carl Paladino won big in the Republican Primary in the Eastwick area as well as throughout New York State and Rensselaer County. The multimillionaire developer from Buffalo defeated former Representative Rick Lazio with about 62% of the vote statewide. He did better upstate taking 79% of the vote in Rensselaer County and 80% in the towns of Hoosick, Grafton, Petersburgh, Berlin and Stephentown.

North Petersburgh Farm Wins Blue Ribbon At The Fair

The Schaghticoke Fair was last week. The first few days were really hot, but the weekend was glorious and the weather was perfect for strolling through the exhibits. Some families have been exhibiting at the Fair for 50 years or more. Today their children and grandchildren also show animals, participate in 4-H programs or exhibit crafts and more. Besides the rides, which the young people love, there were plenty of activities and interesting programs for young and old to enjoy and plenty of food to try as well.
