2022 Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Events

Rensselaer County, the City of Troy and the Town of Bethlehem are partnering on an inter-county Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) disposal program for 2022. The program consists of six events. 

These events, currently scheduled throughout the second half of the year, provide residents of the participating municipalities the opportunity to safely dispose of hazardous materials not accepted through normal garbage collection service.

The next event will be Saturday, July 30, at the Town of Schodack Highway Garage in Nassau at 3776 U.S. Route 20.

Participating Municipalities for the July 30 event are the Town of Schodack, the Town of Nassau, the City of Troy and the Town of Bethlehem. [Read more…] about 2022 Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Events

Schodack Town Council Highlights

The April 14 meeting of the Schodack Town Council was brief but full of resolutions. Schodack Planning Board Highlights

The March 21 Schodack Planning Board meeting highlighted several development projects for the Town. The meeting began with a public hearing on some proposed timber harvesting on Kraft Road. Chandler Forestry services from Greenfield Center will be supervising the 25-acre project. The timber harvesting was approved for a year. 

After approving a lot line adjustment on Berzin Road, Schodack Golf presented an update about the 12-lot subdivision on Schuurman Road. The developers have been addressing items that LaBerge engineering consultants have questioned. The SEQRA was completed in January, and a 900-foot water extension is underway. Since there is a 16- to 36-week delay in getting materials for the water extension, there was some discussion about creating a bond to keep the project progressing.  [Read more…] about Schodack Planning Board Highlights

Schodack Town Council Highlights

After the public hearing on Golf LLC’s Consolidated Water District 101 Extension No. 7, the February 24 Schodack Town Council meeting focused on a long list of topics ranging from parks to the police department. 

The Council approved Golf LLC’s proposed project of installing 850 feet of 12 inch water mains, two hydrants and 11 curb boxes that will be paid for by the developer and supply 11 residences and the clubhouse for the golf course.  [Read more…] about Schodack Town Council Highlights

I-90 Corridor Plan Reviewed – Schodack

The Rensselaer County Industry Development Agency (IDA) held a public scoping meeting on February 15 at the Schodack Town Hall. All Schodack officials and public members could ask questions and comment on the draft generic environmental impact statement (GEIS) created for approximately 6,000 acres along the I-90 Corridor between exits 11 and 12 on Route 9.

Schodack Planning Board Highlights

The Schodack Planning Board was busy at their February 7 meeting. The Board approved a positive Zoning Board recommendation for a variance for a garage on a property on Maple Hill Road. 

Schodack Golf’s 12-lot proposed subdivision on Schuurman Road was discussed, and had their negative declaration was approved under SEQRA. The highlight of the conversation focused on water for the project. The first element was the potential 900’ extension of the water district. The second was the drainage on some of the proposed lots. The presenter discussed the possibility of dry wells and footing drains being installed on the lots. Vegetation on the lots and swales being impacted were concerns. Schodack Planning Board

The January 3 meeting of the Schodack Planning Board opened with public comment from one resident voicing concern over the sequence of burials and rate of funerals in the Muslim Community of Troy’s proposed cemetery on Phillips Road. According to Muslim Community members, the estimated rate of calculated graves incorporated the high pandemic death rates of approximately 35 to 50 per year. The resident hoped that a vinyl fence could be installed behind the residences that would be affected. Schodack Planning Board Highlights

Even though the Christmas holiday is quickly approaching, the Schodack Planning Board was busy at their December 20 meeting. After the minutes were approved, a Schodack resident voiced questions about the Muslim Community of Troy cemetery project proposed on Phillips Road. The resident asked for clarification about the burial process, the phasing of the project and the impact on groundwater. Members of the Board explained that the burial ceremonies involve simple pine boxes with no embalming process.

During the December 6 Schodack Planning Board meeting, public hearings were a topic for discussion. The first was about Schuurman Road’s Schodack Golf 12 lot subdivision. The 294 acre project is looking to extend the water district approximately 900’. Board members voiced concern about drainage and the culvert on Schuurman Road. The presenter assured the Board they were not pushing water out on Schuurman Road. The Board approved the subdivision to go to engineering.

Van Hoesen Road Bridge Reopened in Schodack
