Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department Texas Hold’em
The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, January 26, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 35 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5:30 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.
A free buffet will be served at the first break, and refreshments will be available.
No advance registration is required, and a donation of $35 per player will be accepted. Players can make an additional $10 donation at the door for 1,000 extra chips. This tournament will pay one place for every ten players with a minimum of four places and a maximum of nine places.

The Stephentown Fire Department Installation

The Stephentown Fire Department held its Installation Dinner on January 5 at the Fire Hall on Grange Hall Road. Master of Ceremonies Henry Zwack kicked off the event with some opening words and recognition of guests, and Father John Close gave the invocation and blessing before dinner.
Dinner was provided by the Hitchin Post Restaurant, and it was a lavish spread.

Stephentown ZBA Developing Final EIS For Motocross Park

The Stephentown Zoning Board is in the process of developing a Final Environmental Impact Statement for Howard Commander’s Motocross Park proposed for a site off of Webster Hill Road in the southern edge of the Town. At their meeting on January 3 they listened to a summary of a ten page document from their engineering consultant, Mike Bianchino of CHA (Clough-Harbour Associates) in which he summarized and categorized public comments received on the Draft EIS that the Board accepted in October.

Alexander Haley Named To President’s List At SUNYIT
Alexander Haley of Stephentown, majoring in Electrical Engineering Technology, has been named to the President’s List for the fall 2012 semester at SUNYIT. A semester grade point average of 3.60 or above qualifies full time, matriculated students for inclusion on the President’s List.
SUNYIT, the State University of New York Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome, is New York State’s public institute of technology, offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs in technology and professional studies.
Stephentown Food Pantry Distributed 47 Christmas Dinners

Christmas dinner bundles were prepared for 47 families served by the Stephentown Food Pantry. The Stephentown Food Pantry volunteers assembled the finished packages with help from the Girl Scouts and many donations from businesses and the community. The festive and re-useable bags were provided, for the second year, by Blue Q.

Memories Of The Fifties At The Stephentown Historical Society
Polish up your penny loafers and let out your poodle skirt for an evening of Memories of the Fifties at the Stephentown Historical Society meeting on Monday, January 7, at 7:30 pm. Learn what was happening in Stephentown during that decade from a panel of “local experts.” What were entertainments and sports? Where did we shop or buy a car? What landmarks would we see? Bring along any personal or town photos and memorabilia from that time if you like.

Reid Rascoe Receives New Rank
Major General Patrick A. Murphy, The Adjutant General for the State of New York, announced the promotion of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their capability for additional responsibility and leadership.
Reid Rascoe from Stephentown, serving with the Company A, 1-224 Aviation Security and Support Battalion is promoted to the rank of Private.
