Rachel Barnum, daughter of Amy and Brian Barnum, of Stephentown has been chosen by Berlin High School to attend the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Seminar this summer at RPI in Troy. Each school in New York sends an outstanding candidate from the sophomore class to attend the Leadership Seminar to represent their high school.
For more than five decades, HOBY has proven to be an education, life-changing experience that provides leadership development skills with a strong focus on community service. Last year, approximately 9,000 of the brightest high school sophomores from across the United States participated in HOBY.

Two Stephentown Students From HVCC Inducted Into Phi Theta Kappa Academic Honor Society
Local college students studying at Hudson Valley Community College were recently inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the international academic honor society for two year institutions of higher learning. Membership in Phi Theta Kappa is indicative of academic excellence. Those inducted are matriculated students who have met standards including a grade point average of 3.71 or higher.

Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department Texas Hold’em
The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, December 15, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 35 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5:30 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.
A free buffet will be served at the first break, and refreshments will be available.

The History Of Berlin’s Dutch Church Will Be Presented At The Stephentown Historical Society Meeting
The Stephentown Historical Society will hold its holiday potluck dinner on Monday, December 3, at 6:30 pm at the Stephentown Heritage Center, Garfield Road (County Route 26) in Stephentown. Stephentown Adopts Budget

Stephentown’s Budget for 2013, adopted on Monday by the Town Board, is basically the same as the Preliminary Budget that was presented last month at a public hearing. Projected spending remains the same at $1,261,972 and the increase in the tax levy stays within the cap at 2.2% (or 1.8% when the Fire District budget, unchanged from last year, is included). Town Supervisor Larry Eckhardt pointed out that $10,000 less will be taken from the Unexpended Fund Balance as the Board now projects a 14% increase from County sales tax revenue rather than the 10% that was projected in the Preliminary Budget.
