The Cub Scouts of Webelos Den 1 in Stephentown Pack 911 received awards last week for the great work they did last month in helping to restore a historic cemetery in North Stephentown. The Scouts are Lane Pelletier, Andrew Joyes, Wyatt Cameron and Gavin Bink. Under the direction of David Cummings, a member of the Stephentown Historical Society Cemeteries Committee and Gavin’s grandfather, the boys spent a number of hours clearing brush from the overgrown Arnold cemetery, unearthing bases and resetting toppled gravestones.

The Cantering Cowpokes 4-H club took a trip to the annual Equine Affaire on Saturday, November 10. Leaving early in the morning, members Emma Woolley, Lindsey Oswald and Christina Shupe and leaders Betty Gutermuth, Laura Sicko, Monica Shupe and Amber Oswald drove to the Big E in Springfield, MA.

Stephentown Community Tree Lighting
Stephentown will be having a community tree lighting on Sunday, December 2, at 6 pm in the Veterans Park. Come bring in the holiday season with fellow members of the community, caroling and hot cocoa.
Texas Hold’em In Stephentown
The Veterans of Stephentown will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, December 1, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 35 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.
A free buffet will be served at the first break.

Stephentown Honors WW II Vets

Veterans Day in Stephentown this year was focused on World War II veterans. At ceremonies held in Veterans Park on Saturday, November 10, following the raising of the flag and laying of wreaths at the Veterans Monument, Tom MacVeigh, President of the Stephentown Veterans introduced the World War II veterans living in Stephentown.

Stephentown Memorial Library Re-Dedicated To Veterans

The Stephentown Memorial Library has “Memorial” in its name because when founded in 1946 it was dedicated to the memory of the military veterans from Stephentown. “Our goal since then has been to serve this community as our service people have served our country,” said Library Board President Sue Brisette Cass at a ceremony on Wednesday, November 7, at which the Library was rededicated to the veterans. Lawrence E. Baldwin
Stephentown – Lawrence Edgar Baldwin, 70, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 11, 2012, after a long illness. Born May 5, 1942, in Troy, NY, he lived most of his life in the Berlin-Stephentown area. Larry was a member of the Laborer’s Local #452 and #190 construction unions since 1962. He helped build many roads, bridges and buildings in the area. He lived life to the fullest, enjoying every minute. Larry loved hunting, fishing, gardening and his dogs.

Piano Concert At The Stephentown Federated Church
On Sunday, November 18, at 7 pm, there will be a classical piano concert at the Federated Church on Garfield Road in Stephentown. Sarah Masterson, who just received her doctorate in music, will play selections from Mozart, Schubert, Harris and Liszt.

Hurricane Sandy Aftermath
Many Stephentown area folks are eager to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy. A local group has asked that the Stephentown Memorial Library be the collection point for donations, and we are pleased to help. The group asks for the following donations: warm winter outerwear for infants, children and adults to include coats, hats, jackets, scarves, gloves, winter pants, flannel shirts, sweaters, warm boots and warm socks, baby items such as diapers, wipes, stuffed toys, formula and baby food, bottled water and batteries, warm blankets and hand warmers, money for gas and tolls.
