Stephentown Veterans Day Celebration – Revised

The Veterans of Stephentown Area invite you to join them in their celebration of Veterans Day on Saturday, November 10. The program will start at 11 am in the Veterans Memorial Park, located between Rts. 22 and 43 in Stephentown.
The Stephentown Veterans will honor its WW II Veterans.
Following the celebration the Veterans invite the public to join them at 12:30 pm in the Stephentown Fire Hall for a spaghetti dinner. The Fire Hall is located at 35 Grange Hall Road, a good will offering will be accepted.
For Stephentown shut-ins only, call 658-2448 by noon on Friday, November 9, to make arrangements for home delivery.

Volunteer Fire Department Texas Hold’em In Stephentown

The Volunteer Fire Department  will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, November 17, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 35 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5:30 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.
A free buffet will be served at the first break, and refreshments will be available.

Stephentown Town Supervisor Larry Eckhardt reported on Tuesday that according to a NYSEG official Stephentown was near the top of the list in Rensselaer County for power outages. Fatal Car Accident In Berlin

A fatal accident occurred in the Town of Berlin early Tuesday morning as the effects of Hurricane Sandy were beginning to subside here. DEC Lists Notice Of Stephentown ZBA Acceptance Of Motocross Environmental Statement

The State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has announced on its Environmental Notice Bulletin website that the Stephentown Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA), as lead agency, has accepted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the Stephentown Motocross Track proposed for a site off of Webster Hill Road. This action occurred at the ZBA meeting on October 4.

Storm Kiboshes Stephentown Land Use Hearing

Intrepid members of the Stephentown Town Board braved the winds of Hurricane Sandy Monday evening to turn out for a scheduled public hearing on revisions to the Land Use Regulations. Town Supervisor Larry Eckhardt showed up along with Councilmen Bill Jennings and John Meekins and Town Clerk Stephanie Wagar. Councilmen Chris Demick and PJ Roder were off on another adventure. There was no public hearing, however, as no members of the public were brave enough – or foolish enough – to venture out during the height of the storm.

Stephentown Library Veterans Rededication

Stephentown Library Veterans Rededication Celebration will take place on Wednesday, November 7, at 7 pm at the Stephentown Memorial Library.
The present Library had its origin at a meeting of the Stephentown War Council in May, 1946, when Lewis Griffin presented plans for the formation of a library to honor the local men and women who had served in the armed forces in the two world wars. Sustainable Stephentown Volunteers Plant Daffodils

On a recent Sunday morning in October, Sustainable Stephentown organized a dozen energetic volunteers to plant and distribute 1,000 daffodil bulbs throughout Stephentown. A local citizen generously donated the bulbs in support of Sustainable Stephentown’s efforts to beautify the Town.

The Stephentown Historical Society Presents The History Of The Pittsfield Military Cantonment

Historian James Parrish will present an illustrated talk, “The History of the Pittsfield Military Cantonment,” at the Stephentown Historical Society meeting on Monday, November 5, at 7:30 pm.   The Cantonment was a prison which held British and Canadian soldiers captured during the War of 1812. The meeting will be at the Stephentown Heritage Center on Garfield Road, Stephentown. It is free and open to the public. The building is handicapped accessible. Stephentown Preliminary Budget Holds To Tax Cap

At a public hearing on Monday evening the Stephentown Town Board went through its tentative budget for 2013 and came up with enough adjustments to end up with a preliminary budget that stays within the 2% State mandated cap on tax increases. The Board is not finished with this budget, however, as some believe additional savings might still be found on the Highway Department side that could allow a bit less to be taken from the Unexpended Fund Balance.
