Girl Scout Spelunking Adventure

Stephentown Senior Girl scout Troop 1120 recently spent the afternoon crawling, climbing and swimming through deep underground caves during a spelunking adventure at the Natural Stone Bridge Caves in Pottersville, NY.

The Invisible Road To Freedom At The Stephentown Historical Society

Paul and Mary Liz Stewart of The Underground Railroad History Project of the Capital Region will present “The Invisible Road To Freedom” at the Stephentown Historical Society meeting on Monday, October 1, at 7:30 pm. The meeting will be at the Stephentown Heritage Center on Garfield Road, Stephentown. It is free and open to the public. The building is handicapped accessible. The Stephentown Food Pantry Is Busy

The Stephentown Food Pantry volunteers have been kept very busy lately. So far this month the pantry has provided food for 123 people, with as many as fourteen families being helped on a Saturday morning. The Stephentown Food Pantry offers short term assistance to residents of Stephentown and Hancock, MA. The pantry is open every Saturday morning, weather permitting, from 9 to 11 am at the Stephentown Federated Church, Garfield Road (County Route 26). Appointments are not needed. Texas Hold’em In Stephentown

The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, September 29, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 35 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5:30 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.
A free buffet will be served at the first break, and refreshments will be available.
No advance registration is required, and a donation of $35 per player will be accepted. Players can make an additional $10 donation at the door for 1,000 extra chips. This tournament will pay one place for every ten players with a minimum of four places and a maximum of 9 places.

Stephentown Town Board Action – Stephentown Buys Property Online

The Town of Stephentown was the successful bidder in an online auction to purchase a 1.2 acre property across the street from the Town Hall for $45,000. Two years ago the Town Board had offered $95,000 for the land and a house on it which together at that time were appraised at $115,000. The offer was refused. By 2012, with Fannie Mae now the owner following foreclosure, the asking price was down to $65,000.

Flames At The Stephentown Muster

The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department had its annual muster on Saturday and Sunday September 15 and 16.  The event started with water polo on Saturday night. There were nineteen children who competed prior to the adults.

Cabaret To Benefit The Stephentown Memorial Library

Berkshires-based cabaret performer Lisa Kantor will present “You Read Me Like a Book!” – an evening of love songs and love-gone-wrong songs at The Theater Barn in New Lebanon on Friday, September 28, to benefit the Stephentown Memorial Library. The unique fundraiser and musical program is organized by the Friends of the Library. Wine and light refreshments will be available at 7 pm, and the cabaret show follows at 8 pm. Flu Shot Clinic In Stephentown

There will be a flu shot clinic sponsored by Stephentown Seniors Club on September 20 from 11 am until 12.30 pm at the Firemen’s Hall on Grange Hall Road. The clinic is open to the public. September Events At The Stephentown Memorial Library

• Story Time – Wednesdays at 10 am.  Calling all preschoolers (and their caregivers)! Join us each Wednesday for some story time fun! In this half hour session, we read aloud, sing songs, move about and explore the world around us through literature. Parents and children are encouraged to stay after story time so children have time for free play while grown-ups browse for books and socialize. Story Time is led by Rebekkah Corbett, a local educator and member of the SML staff.
