Averill Park/West Sand Lake – Jerome Griffin Hunt, 88, of Springer Road, West Sand Lake, NY, died Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at Rosewood Gardens in East Greenbush, NY, after a brief  illness.
Born in Averill Park, NY, he was the son of the late Arbie J. Hunt and Marian Griffin Hunt and the husband of Edith May Face Hunt. He had resided in Averill Park all his life and attended Averill Park High School.

Stephentown Man Charged In Christopher Baker Fatality

Brendan Hoffman, a 19 year old Stephentown resident, has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide in relation to the June 28 accident on Cranston Hill Road in Stephentown that killed his friend, Christopher Baker. According to Rensselaer County District Attorney Richard McNally, the charge is a Class B felony from which a conviction could result in up to 25 years imprisonment. Elements of the charge include driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and causing the death of another person.

Stephentown Contributes To The County Veterans Hall Exhibition At The Fair

The former Freihofer’s Building at the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds is now the Veterans Hall. During the Rensselaer County Fair which extended over Labor Day weekend it became one of the more popular sites to visit. “The turnout and the response from veterans and those who know or love them was overwhelming,” said Jody Luskin, one of those who led a small group of dedicated volunteers in refurbishing the hall and putting together the exhibits. “It’s been a huge, huge response,” she said, with a constant stream of people browsing through the exhibits.

Cabaret To Benefit The Stephentown Memorial Library

Berkshires-based cabaret performer Lisa Kantor will present “You Read Me Like a Book!” – an evening of love songs and love-gone-wrong songs at The Theater Barn in New Lebanon on Friday, September 28, to benefit the Stephentown Memorial Library. The unique fundraiser and musical program is organized by the Friends of the Library. Wine and light refreshments will be available at 7 pm, and the cabaret show follows at 8 pm. Sand Lake Historical Society And Bicentennial Planning Meeting

There will be a  combined meeting of the Sand Lake Historical Society  and the Bicentennial Planning Committee on Tuesday, September 11, at 6 pm at the Sand Lake Baptist Church, 2960 NY 43 in Averill Park. It will be a  covered dish dinner. Please bring an entrée or salad. Dessert, beverages and table settings will be provided. The program will be the Bicentennial in Review. Your pictures and remembrances will be welcomed as well as items of historical significance to be considered for the time capsule. Musical selections will be provided by Betsy & Steve Fry and Friends
