Three Centuries On The Hudson At The Stephentown Historical Society

Author William Staats will give a talk, “Three Centuries on the Hudson River,” at the Stephentown Historical Society meeting on Monday, September 10, at 7:30 pm.  He tells the story of Hoogebergh, the Dutch fieldstone homestead in Castleton-on-Hudson in which eleven generations of the Staats family have lived. The meeting will be at the Stephentown Heritage Center on Garfield Road, Stephentown.  It is free and open to the public. The building is handicapped accessible. SML Closed For Labor Day

The Stephentown Memorial Library will be closed on Saturday, September 1, and Monday, September 3, in observance of  Labor Day. Please use our book drop, located near the handicapped ramp on the front of the building, when we are closed. We will be open Tuesday, September 4, as usual to meet your needs.

Stephentown Volunteer Fireman’s Muster

The Annual Stephentown Fireman’s Muster kicks off at 7 pm on Saturday, September 15, with the Water Polo competition. On Sunday, September 16, the Parade begins at 11 am followed by the muster competition.  Come support your local fire departments as they battle each other in head-to-head competitions.  There will be a bouncy-bounce slide for the kids. Parade Float entries from the community are encouraged.

Kevin Weber Graduates From Norwich

Kevin Edward Weber of Stephentown recently graduated from Norwich University. He earned a Bachelor of Science-Biology from the School of Math and Science. He also graduated Magna Cum Laude with High Honors 3.30-3.59 GPA. He was a four year member of Norwich swim team and its captain for two years. He was a finalist in the New England Swimming Championship every year.

This is a strenuous two day hike with some off trail bushwhacking and significant elevation change. We will be traveling approximately 15 miles each day. Participants must be in excellent physical condition. There is a $10 suggested donation to offset fuel costs. As part of the Hudson River Valley Ramble, pre-registration is required. Stephentown Town Board Action – Serious Complaints About The Music Festival

Monday was the first day after the Bella Terra music festival in Stephentown, but as the Stephentown Town Board heard at their monthly meeting that night, not all residents are feeling all that festive in its wake.
Town Supervisor Larry Eckhardt said that he had heard some complaints that the music continued until around 4:30 am Monday morning. He was under the impression that the festival was going to end around 10 pm Sunday night.

Tyler Pomakoy Recognized For Outstanding Academic Achievement

Tyler Pomakoy, a student-athlete at Binghamton University, was named to the spring 2012 Athletic Director’s Honor Roll after achieving semester grade point average (GPA) of 3.30 or higher. Tyler Pomakoy, who is on the Men’s Soccer team and pursuing a major in Harpur College, hails from Stephentown and attended Berlin High School.
