Stephentown resident Burt Swersey was recognized for outstanding service to students at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s 206th Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 26. Swersey, a longtime senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Nuclear Engineering, was selected as the 38th recipient of the prestigious David M. Cantering Cowpokes 4H News
On May 5 the Cantering Cowpokes went to Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Our local 4H group met up with other 4H groups from New York State to participate in Animal Crackers. This year’s program allowed 4H’ers to choose between learning about dogs or dairy cattle. All of the Cantering Cowpokes, who attended chose to learn about dairy cattle. Stephentown Historical Society Program On The US Currency Paper Mill
Peter Hopkins will give an illustrated talk, “Exploring the Colonial Roots of Crane & Co. – Intersections with American History,” at the Stephentown Historical Society meeting on Monday, June 4, at 7:30 pm. The meeting will be at the Stephentown Heritage Center on Garfield Road, Stephentown. It is free and open to the public. The building is handicapped accessible. Stephentown Youth Commission Summer Program Registration

The Stephentown Summer Program, for Stephentown residents only, will run from July 9 through August 17, a six week program for children who have completed kindergarten through the completion of fifth grade. The program will be held at the Stephentown Elementary School. Camp operates from 9 am to 12 pm rain or shine. Campers will participate in many daily activities such as arts and crafts, recreational sports, theme weeks and weekly visits to the Stephentown Memorial Library.

Stephentown Texas Hold’em
The Veterans of Stephentown and the Stephentown Fire Department will sponsor a joint Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, June 9, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 35 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.

Stephentown Writer Stays Focused

Recently, budding Stephentown author Matthew W. Williamson entered the First Annual Horror, Chiller, Thriller Contest sponsored by the Berkshire Writers Room. His story entitled “Maria’s Van” placed third and earned him an invitation to a reception at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts on Renne Street in Pittsfield on May 30 at 7 pm, where he will read his story to the gathered crowd. The reading will be taped for a June broadcast on PC16, Pittsfield’s public access channel.
