Stephentown Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Please join the Stephentown Youth Commission on Saturday, April 7, at 12:30 pm at the Stephentown Firemen’s Pavilion on Grange Hall Road for the Annual Easter Egg Hunt. Grades pre-k through fifth are invited to hunt. This event will be held entirely outdoors so please dress appropriately. Don’t forget your Easter basket to collect your treats.
The Easter Bunny will be hopping around. Adult supervision is required.
In the event of rain or snow, this event will be canceled.

Greenway Check Presented At Berry Patch

Rensselaer County’s Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan got a boost Tuesday in the form of a check from the Hudson River Valley Greenway. The check was presented at the Berry Patch of Stone Wall Hill Farm in Stephentown in view of the fact that that farm received farmland protection in 2009 aided by a grant from the State’s farmland protection program. Stephentown Town Board Action – The Hazard Mitigation Plan

The Stephentown Town Board has asked Rensselaer County to take lead agency status in the environmental review for the County-wide Hazard Mitigation Plan. At their meeting on Monday the Town Board also resolved that the Town would accept the Plan upon the successful completion of the SEQR process.

The Cub Scout Pack 911 Pinewood Derby

Cub Scout Pack 911 held its Annual Pine Wood Derby race on Sunday, March 4, at the Stephentown Fire Hall. Twenty cub scouts participated in the event.  A great time was had by all the scouts and their families. Trophies were awarded to each den and to the overall winners.

• St. Patrick’s Day Bake Sale – on Friday, March 16, from 12 to 8 pm and Saturday, March 17, from 10 am to 2 pm, the Friends of SML will be selling an assortment of cookies, brownies and other goodies. Items will be individually packaged to grab and go, so plan to stock up on some delicious home baked treats. The fund-raiser moves to the Stephentown Fire Hall on Saturday, March 17, from 4 to 6 pm for the SVFD Annual Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner. Have a great meal and support the Stephentown Fire Department, then purchase homemade cakes, breads, pans of brownies and more for your family gatherings or St. Patrick’s Day parties. The Stephentown Zoning Board voted in a split decision last week to reject an appeal of a determination by the Code Enforcement Officer regarding an access road to Howard Commander’s proposed Motocross project. Open Burning Banned Between March 16 And May 15

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) implemented a new open burning regulation that took effect in October 2009. As part of that regulation no open burning is permitted between March 16 and May 15 each year. The regulation also specifies what can and cannot be burned. What can be burned is brush with pieces up to 6 inches in diameter and not more than 8 feet in length. Organic agricultural waste can also be burned. Campfires and ceremonial bonfires are permitted with certain restrictions. Burn barrels, leaf burning, construction debris and burning of any household trash is banned.
