Veterans Of Stephentown Texas Hold’em

The Veterans of Stephentown  will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, February 11, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 37 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.
A free buffet will be served at the first break.
No advance registration is required, and a donation of $35 per player will be accepted. Players can make an additional $10 donation at the door for 1,000 extra chips. This tournament will pay one place for every ten players with a minimum of four places.

Chris Zema Earns Degree From SUNY New Paltz

The State University of New York at New Paltz recently conferred over 500 undergraduate degrees. Chris Zema, a resident of Stephentown was among the university’s graduates. Zema received a BA in English.
He was also named to the  Dean’s List for the Fall 2011 semester.

Stephentown ZBA Finds Significant Environmental Impact In Motocross Park Project

The Stephentown Zoning Board of Appeals has determined that there would be significant environmental impact in allowing Howard Commander’s proposed Motocross park to be placed in a residential zone off of Webster Hill Road. At a special meeting on Tuesday, the ZBA, following the SEQR (State Environmental Quality Review) process went step by step through Part 2 of the Environmental Assessment Form. Following recommendations from engineering consultant Michael Bianchino of Clough Harbour Associates, the Board determined that there would be significant and important impact in noise and on the growth and character of the neighborhood. Stephentown Town Board Action – Finances In Pretty Good Shape

At the first regular meeting of the year for the Stephentown Town Board, Town Supervisor Larry Eckhardt reported that the Town’s finances appear to be in pretty good shape. Despite keeping the amount appropriated from previous years’ unexpended fund balance down to only $64,000, the Town still managed to end the year 2011 with a small surplus in both the General and the Highway Accounts. Stephentown Book Group Meeting

The Stephentown Library Book Discussion Group will read Homer & Langley by E.L. Doctorow for their meeting on Thursday, February 2. Recluse brothers Homer and Langley Collyer live in their family’s once grand Fifth Avenue mansion in New York City during the first half of the 20th century. One is blind, the other mad. Doctorow recreates the mythic flow of history through their unique lives.
Meetings are held in the Community Room at the Stephentown Memorial Library, Main Street, Stephentown, from noon to 1 pm.  Bring a lunch if you like. Copies of the book are available at the library desk. New readers are always welcome. For more information, call 518-733-5750.
