Trucks Crash In Stephentown

A collision between twin tractor trailer trucks Friday night in Stephentown resulted, luckily, in only minor injuries to one of the drivers. The following is a report of the accident from Stephentown Fire Department Assistant Chief Rik McClave.

Motocross In Stephentown Raises Environmental Concerns

Although Howard Commander’s attorney submitted what he termed was “99 point something percent of our completed application” for a proposed Motocross park in the south end of Town, the Stephentown Zoning Board decided to wait till next month for a 100% complete document. At the meeting on November 3, attorney Francis Roche acknowledged that there may be a couple of loose ends. One is a pending archeological report from the State Historic Preservation Office and the other is a question as to whether the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation will have more to say about wetlands protection.

The Stephentown Election

In Stephentown Larry Eckhardt, running unopposed with Republican endorsement, was reelected with 457 votes for a second two year term. The two Council seats were won by Bill Jennings, Democrat incumbent, with 380 votes and newcomer John Meekins, the Republican Party candidate, registered Conservative, with 333 votes. Republican Jason Guilbeault and Democrat Alice Caton trailed in the Town Council race with 288 and 244 votes respectively.

Veterans Memorial Service In Stephentown

In accord with the President’s Veterans Day Proclamation encouraging all Americans to recognize the valor and sacrifice of our veterans through appropriate public ceremonies and private prayers, the Veterans of Stephentown invite everyone to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, November 12, at the Veterans Park in Stephentown. The service starts at 11 am. Guest speaker will be Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen Jimino.

Stephentown Library News – SML Closed For Veterans Day

The Stephentown Memorial Library will be closed on Friday, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day. Please use our book drop, located near the handicapped ramp on the front of the building, when we are closed. We will be open Saturday, November 12, as usual to meet your needs.

Tsatsawassa Fire Co. Breakfast

The Tsatsawassa Protective Fire Company will hold its monthly breakfast on Sunday, November 20, from 8 am to noon at their firehouse located on Firehouse Lane behind the post office near the intersection of Routes 20 and 66N in Brainard.
Breakfast is scheduled to be served the third Sunday of each month through May and will consist of a choice of pancakes or French toast,  bacon or sausage, eggs prepared to order,  toast, applesauce, orange juice and beverage.

Texas Hold’em In Stephentown

The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department  will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, November 19, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 37 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.

Beacon Files For Bankruptcy – Stephentown Plant Remains Operational

Beacon Power’s frequency regulation plant in Stephentown is still running, but the company has filed for bankruptcy.
On Sunday, October 31, the parent company along with its subsidiaries, Stephentown Holding LLC and Stephentown Regulation Services LLC, requested relief under Chapter 11 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, District of Delaware. Total assets were listed as $72 million and total debts as $47 million. The company has asked permission to use cash collateral assets to facilitate restructuring and to continue operating during bankruptcy proceedings
