Turkey Vultures Are Gentle

According to the Turkey Vulture Society (vulturesociety.homestead.com) the Turkey Vulture is a gentle and non-aggressive bird that has often gotten a bad rap. They generally do not kill anything, do not spread disease and will not hurt your pets or children. They roost in large community groups but forage independently during the day. They easily and gracefully soar on thermal updrafts and have both a keen eyesight and a highly developed sense of smell.

Commemorating The 150th Anniversary Of The Civil War – Letters From A Local Soldier

Calvin A. Haynes of East Nassau, NY, at the age of 24, enlisted in August 1862 at Troy in the 125th New York Infantry Regiment that was being raised in Rensselaer County by Colonel George L. Willard. Mustered in as a Sergeant in Company E to serve three years, he was taken prisoner at Harpers Ferry, spent two months in a parole camp, was exchanged and later faced Pickett’s charge in the battle of Gettysburg. He was discharged in January 1864 to take a promotion to 2nd Lieutenant in the 25th Regiment of U.S. Colored Troops. He was mustered out in December 1865 and died in New York City in April 1894.

Seniors Get Flu Shots In Stephentown
A Celebration For The Tell Me About It Oral History Project
“Tell Me About It,” an oral history project at the Stephentown Memorial Library, is now complete. There will be a public celebration on Sunday, October 23, from 3 to 5 pm at the Library. Participants in the project will be presented with copies of the book of their combined stories, entitled “Stephentown Stories.” The Books were created on Shutterfly and a copy of the book will also be added to the Library collection and gifted to the Stephentown Historical Society. This fun family film is about a group of zoo animals who decide to break their code of silence in order to help their lovable zoo keeper find love – without opting to leave his current job for something more illustrious. This movie is rated PG. Popcorn and drinks will be served. This event is free and all are welcome.

Texas Hold’em
The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, October 22, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located on Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.
A free buffet will be served at the first break, and refreshments will be available.
