Texas Hold’em In Stephentown

The Veterans of Stephentown  will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, September 10, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located on Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.
A free buffet will be served at the first break.

• Fabulous evening of Dessert and Dancing Under the Stars – Join the Friends of SML on Saturday, September 10, from 7 to 10 pm at the Berkshire Mountain House Bed & Breakfast, 150 Berkshire Way, Stephentown. Music will be provided by The Honey Don’ts playing an eclectic blend of dance, oldies and easy listening music for your dancing and listening pleasure. Tickets cost $25 per person and include two glasses of wine, cheese, desserts galore, coffee, tea and non-alcoholic beverages. Tickets are available at the Library or from any Friend of SML. Stephentown Fireman’s Muster And Community Day

The Annual Stephentown Fireman’s Muster and Community Day kicks off at 7 pm on Saturday, September 17, with the Water Polo competition.
On Sunday, September 18, the Parade begins at 11 am followed by the truck events at 1 pm.
Come support your local fire departments as they battle each other in head to head competitions.  There is no charge to come watch the events. The Youth Commission will also have a bouncy-bounce and games for the kids on Sunday.  The parade theme is “Under the Sea.”  Float entries from the community are encouraged.

Letters From A Stephentown Navy Man

Charles F. Chapel was a resident of Stephentown, son of Alice and Stephen Chapel who had come to Stephentown from Rhode Island. On May 2, 1861, he enlisted in the Union Navy for three years at New York City. His rank was Landsman, or what would now be known as a Seaman Recruit.

Stephentown Town Board Action – Town Clerk Gallup Resigns

Patty Gallup, nearing 16 years as Stephentown’s Town Clerk, has for personal reasons submitted her resignation to be effective the end of this month. The Town Board formally accepted her resignation with regret at the Monday evening Board meeting. A reception with cake and flowers and refreshments was held after the meeting to honor her for her years of service.

Stephentown Sex Offender Arrested

Rensselaer County Sheriff, Jack Mahar, today announced the Sheriff’s Office has arrested four sex offenders in the past four weeks including the re-arrest of a violent, Level 3, repeat sex offender who abducted and sexually abused a 13-year-old girl in 1976.
Albert L. Davenport, 60, was arrested last week for possession of pornographic photographs on his laptop computer. The photos were of children whose ages ranged from 3 to 13 years old.  Davenport was supposed to be living in Stephentown on Route 43. The Sheriff said he changed his address and failed to report it.
