Stephentown Town Board Meeting – Correction

It seems we were misinformed at last week’s Stephentown Town Board meeting about Helen Kenyon Johnson. Helen is indeed celebrating her 100th birthday on July 8, but it is not true as we reported that she worked at Sykes Store for many years. Paul Sykes informs us that it was her sister-in-law, Helen B. Kenyon, who was a long time employee of the store. Helen Kenyon Johnson was never employed at Sykes.

Loggers Arrested For Cheating Stephentown Woman

Stephentown Town Board Action – Local Law #2 Adopted

The New York State Constitution provides for an “aging” process whereby State bills must “age” on legislators’ desks for at least three days before final passage. Kind of like that, the Stephentown Town Board last month, following a public hearing on a new law providing for alternate members on the Zoning and Planning Boards, tabled its passage in order to allow a bit more consideration by Councilmen and the public. Humphrey Family Impresses County Legislature

At Tuesday’s meeting of the Rensselaer County Legislature thirteen members of the family of Fred A. Humphrey of Petersburgh gathered to receive copies of the resolution passed last month memorializing him. Humphrey died on April 14, 2011. Vice Chairman of the Legislature, Stan Brownell, who represents the towns of Petersburgh, Berlin, Stephentown, Grafton, Hoosick and the Village of Hoosick Falls, made the presentation accompanied by the other District Five Legislator Lester Goodermote.

Restoring The Denison Burial Ground

David Kirsimagi has taken on the ambitious project of restoring the Denison burial ground in North Stephentown. David, 15, a Stephentown resident and sophomore at LaSalle Institute, is a Life Scout in Nassau Troop #166 working toward the rank of Eagle Scout. Last fall he proposed for his Eagle Scout service project, “To the best of my ability to restore the Denison Cemetery located on East Road in Stephentown, NY, including removal of unwanted brush and trees, photographing  and logging individual gravestones, acquiring and erecting an appropriate sign.”
