Stephentown – Mrs. Ini High Prior died February 25, 2011, at Providence Care Center in Lenox, MA. She was 90 years old. Since her retirement she had resided in Stephentown, NY, at Salisbury Estates, Pittsfield, MA, and most recently at Sugar Hill, Dalton, MA.

Friday’s Snow Traps Tractor Trailer

The snowstorm last Friday didn’t bring a whole lot of snow by recent standards around here, but it did cause some of the most treacherous driving conditions of the season and in some places it took a long time for plows to respond. Stephentown Library Springs To Life

Student Exchange In Stephentown

GuoJiyan and QuoQing, two Chinese high school students, spent nearly a week in Stephentown with the Cass family as part of their tour of American cities and educational institutions. They were members of a group of 32 students who attended Tech Valley High School this past week to learn about collaborative education, practice English as Tech Valley High students tried out their Chinese and experience American life with host families across the Capital District.

SVFD Corned Beef Dinner

The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department’s 13th Annual Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner will be held on Saturday, March 12, from 4 to 7 pm at the Fire Hall  on Grange Hall Road. Take-out dinners also available.
Adult and take-out dinners cost $10; dinners for ages 6-10 years cost $6, and kids 5 and under eat for free.

Downed Tree May Cause Flooding In Stephentown

In an otherwise pretty much cut and dried Town Board meeting Monday, the bills told the story of the heavy toll the severe weather conditions this winter are taking on taxpayers’ money. The Stephentown Town Board audited and approved claims in the amount of $58,581 from the General Account and $22,547 from the Highway Account. Of that, over $30,000 was weather related in some way, including plowing, materials for dealing with ice and snow and repairing overtaxed equipment.

Water Warning During Cold Weather

Cold weather has been upon us in this New Year and now Spring is not that far away. The Stephentown Fire Department is warning people of the dangers of unstable ice and open water on streams, rivers, ponds and lakes.  The heavy snow pack has insulated the ice and it may be more dangerous than you think.
