Morgan’s Artillery At the Stephentown Historical Society

Although the subject of Civil War re-enactor Mac McEvilly’s very entertaining talk at the Stephentown Historical Society Monday night was Morgan’s Artillery, a unit in the Union Army’s 155th New York Volunteers, part of the Irish brigade known as Corcoran’s Legion, McEvilly as a re-enactor portrays both Union and Confederate soldiers. Stephentown Book Group To Discuss The Art Of Racing In The Rain

The Stephentown Library Book Discussion Group will read The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein for their meeting on Thursday, March 3.
Enzo, the old dog with the philosopher’s soul, takes the reader through the trials of his family, up-and-coming race car driver Danny and his daughter Zo’.  This is a beautifully crafted look at the wonders and absurdities of human life … as only a dog could tell it.

Stephentown Volunteer Fire Dept. Historical Information Discovered

The Stephentown Fire District #1 was formed in May of 1939 after a serious fire burned a local business. In July of 1939 the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department was organized to provide the manpower for the fire engine that was being purchased by the District.   Recently, after the passing of a 50-year member of the Department, records dating back to the original formation were turned over to the Department. Minutes of meetings between 1939 and 1941 are being transcribed.

Petersburgh Boy Scout Troop #222 Excels At The Klondike Derby

On January 29 the Boy Scout Mahikan District hosted over 240 scouts at the annual Klondike Derby at Camp Rotary. The Klondike Derby is a hands-on scout adventure where patrols of scouts compete in winter survival and teamwork challenges. A Program On Morgan’s Artillery

John (Mac) McEvilly will present a program on Morgan’s Artillery, a local Civil War re-enactment group, to the Stephentown Historical Society on Monday, February 7, at 7:30 pm. The meeting will be at the Stephentown Heritage Center on Garfield Road, Stephentown. It is free and open to the public. Veterans of Stephentown Texas Hold’em

The Veterans of Stephentown  will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, February 12, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located on Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.

Elizabeth Rathbun Named to The Dean’s List At UNH

Elizabeth Rathbun of Stephentown has earned Highest Honors for the fall semester of the 2010-2011 academic year and has been named to the Dean’s List at the University of New Hampshire.
Students named to the Dean’s List at the University of New Hampshire have earned recognition through their superior scholastic performance. Highest Honors are awarded to students who earn a semester grade point average of 3.7 or better out of a possible 4.0. Students with a 3.5 to 3.69 average are awarded high honors and students whose grade point average is 3.2 through 3.49 are awarded honors.

Jess Olson On The College of Saint Rose Dean’s List

Jess Olson, daughter of Bobby and Kathie Olson of Stephentown, has been named to the Dean’s List at The College of Saint Rose for the fall 2010 semester. To be eligible for this honor a student must have a GPA of at least 3.5 and carry at least 12 credit hours for the semester.
Jess is a senior, majoring in Molecular Biology and a 2007 graduate of Berlin Central School.
