Rachel Gordon, a senior at Berlin High School, has been selected for the prestigious Artist Apprenticeship with Albany Pro Musica, the premier choral group in the Capital Region.

• Zumba Classes at SML – Wednesday evenings at 7 pm beginning on January 19. Zumba is an exhilarating Latin-inspired dance fitness class designed to benefit anyone, regardless of age or fitness level. Zumba Instructor Kim Conley is also a Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher, Pilates Instructor and Personal Trainer who works with people of every age and ability all over the Berkshires. She will lead us in a one hour weekly class. Each class costs $5 per participant. Class size is limited to 30 participants, so advance registration is suggested. Class will be held in the main room of SML, with possible overflow into the Community Room. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Zumba is a blast – come join the party!

The Stephentown Library Book Discussion Group will read The Help by Kathryn Stockett for their meeting on Thursday, February 3. This “Upstairs, Downstairs” of 1962 Jackson, Mississippi, is an illuminating and compassionate story. Recent grad Skeeter aspires to be a journalist and finds her subject in the lives of the black maids working for her friends and family. The clandestine writing project puts them all at risk.

Extra Helpings For Stephentown
The ordering date for February bundles from the Extra Helpings Community Food Buying Club in Stephentown is Thursday, January 27, from 3:30 to 6 pm at the Stephentown Federated Church on Garfield Road. The Extra Helpings program is part of the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. It allows anyone to buy nutritious food at lower than retail prices. There are no limits on age, income, number of bundles or geography, so all smart shoppers are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Tour The Stephentown Historical Society’s Website
Take a tour of the Stephentown Historical Society’s updated website with webmaster Dick Rhindress on Monday, January 10, at 7:30 pm. See some of the information and pictures available now and learn of future possibilities. The meeting will be at the Stephentown Heritage Center on Garfield Road, Stephentown. TVCG Meeting
The January meeting of the Taconic Valley Community Group (TVCG), is scheduled for Thursday, January 13, at 12:30 pm at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall, Route 20, New Lebanon. The program will feature Jim Shake of the American Red Cross discussing the blood drive that TVCG will host on Thursday, February 10, at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall. Joseph Crane
Stephentown – Joseph Crane, 81, of Cranston Hill Road, Stephentown, NY, died on Saturday, December 25, 2010, at Springside of Pittsfield, MA, after a long illness.
Born in New York City on May 3, 1929, he was the son of the late Charles and Sylvia Sipkin Crane. Joe was the loving husband of Dianne Tescher Crane, whom he married in Manhattan, NY, on December 26, 1954. They have been full time residents of Stephentown for the past three years after living in Arizona for the previous ten years. They have been a part of the Stephentown community since 1987.
