Stephentown Town Board Action – Special Meetings, Action On Budget Postponed

The Stephentown Town Board has appointed Bill Jennings to serve out the term of a Board seat left vacant last year after Larry Eckhardt was elected Town Supervisor. Learning that Board Members Mark Prescott and PJ Roder would not be available to participate in the regular November Board meeting scheduled for this past Monday, which would mean no quorum, the Board called a special meeting on Sunday and appointed Jennings to serve until the end of the year. In January he will begin serving the term to which he was elected on November 2.

Releasing the report, Vice President Joe Biden said, “With [American Reinvestment and] Recovery Act projects like these, we’re starting to turn the page on a decade of failed economic policies and rebuild our economy on a new foundation that creates good middle class jobs for American families, and we’re not engineering this transformation alone – Recovery Act projects are drawing billions in private capital off the sidelines to help recharge our economy.”

Girl Scout Junior Troop 1752 Gets Fit
Girl Scout Troop 1752 has been very active earning their Fun and Fitness Badges and Adventure Sports badges. We would like to extend a very special thank you to Lisa Garnett for teaching our troop Zumba. Mrs. Garnett came out to Berlin Elementary and spent an hour of great fun with the girls teaching them all the Zumba moves to the latest music. The junior girl scouts had an amazing time and loved all the dance moves. Who knew exercise could be such fun? Lisa teaches classes at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center on Monday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30 and on Thursday evenings from 6 to 7.
The girls also spent a separate fabulous afternoon kayaking and canoeing at Dyken Pond with the wonderful staff there. The girls were especially thrilled with Mr. Trevor. For most of the girls, this was their first time in a kayak or canoe, and he was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Although the weather was a little chilly, it was an exciting fun filled day for all. We would like to thank everyone at Dyken Pond for a great afternoon.

Girl Scouts provides wonderful opportunities for girls ages 5-18 to try new experiences in a fun and safe atmosphere. If you would like to learn more about girl scouts in the Stephentown, Berlin, Petersburgh and Grafton areas, please contact Kathy Despart at kdespart@aim.com.
