The Stephentown Youth Commission Halloween Party & Pumpkin Contest is on Saturday, October 30, from 4 to 5 pm at the Stephentown Town Hall located on Grange Hall Road. The ordering date for November bundles from the Extra Helpings Community Food Buying Club in Stephentown is Thursday, October 28, from 3:30 to 6 pm at the Stephentown Federated Church on Garfield Road. The Extra Helpings program is part of the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. It allows anyone to buy nutritious food at lower-than-retail prices. There are no limits on age, income, number of bundles or geography so all smart shoppers are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Stephentown ZBA Takes Up Motocross Again

It took some prodding but the Stephentown Zoning Board eventually got on track to starting a new review of Howard Commander’s proposed Motocross Sports Park. The meeting on Thursday evening, October 7, got off to a late start because, with Board Secretary Deborah Angley’s resignation and no replacement found yet, no one present knew where to find the key to the light switch. Town Clerk Patty Gallup finally arrived and put the lights on.

Texas Hold’em
The Veterans of Stephentown will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, October 16, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located on Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.
A free buffet will be served at the first break, and refreshments will be available.

Tsatsawassa Fire Company Breakfast
The Tsatsawassa Protective Fire Company will resume its monthly breakfast on Sunday, October 17, from 8 am to noon at the firehouse located on Firehouse Lane behind the post office near the intersection of Routes 20 and 66N in Brainard. Breakfast is scheduled to be served the third Sunday of each month through May and will consist of patron’s choice of pancakes or French toast, bacon or sausage, eggs prepared to order, toast, applesauce, orange juice and beverage. Stephentown/Berlin – James (Jim) Sweener, 75, died September 29, 2010, in Daytona Beach, FL. Born in Stephentown Center, NY, in 1935, Jim was the son of the late Nelson and Doris (Moon) Sweener. He attended Berlin (NY) schools and, at one time, worked for the Stephentown Highway Department. He had lived in Florida for the last 30 years.

Tour Of The Stephentown Center Baptist Church Cemetery

The Rensselaer Land Trust sponsored a tour of the old Stephentown Center Baptist Church Cemetery on Sunday, September 26. About twenty participants explored the burial ground on Calvin Cole Road, which contains the grave of a Revolutionary War Soldier and beautifully restored stones from the early 1800s.
