Letter To The Editor – P.O. Policies Come From The Top

October 1, 2010 By eastwickpress

Dear Editor:
This letter is in response to recent letters complaining about the Stephentown Post Office. There are some facts that must be presented. There is NO ability on the part of local Postmasters to make ANY policy about the conduct of business at a local office, NONE. The local Postal Service is extremely tightly controlled by the government. All of the complaints, such as no local delivery without first going through Albany and no mail to be given out over the counter are NOT local policies; they are Post Office Policy. These policies are not new and have been in place for some time.

September 24, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Phillip Zema
From August 19 to 22, the Bella Terra Festival was held at Gardner’s Field in Stephentown. Event promoter, Jeffrey Schneider, reported that 1,400 people attended the event and that it was well-received by the community.  Several residents, however, expressed concerns about the amount of noise created by the concert.  Reportedly, even during late-night hours, post 11 pm, the music was noticeably loud in parts of town.  One resident asked whether there was a Town ordinance that regulated noise.  The response was that there was no such ordinance at the local level, only at the state level.

Historical Cemetery Program In Stephentown

September 24, 2010 By eastwickpress

On Sunday, September 26, at 1 pm, the Rensselaer Land Trust will lead an outdoor program at the cemetery of the historical Stephentown Old Baptist Church on Calvin Cole Road. The church is no longer at this site, but the cemetery remains, containing graves dating to the early 1800s and many colorful epitaphs. The Stephentown Historical Society will show gravestone rubbings. Following the cemetery stroll there will be a short walk to Randall Brook and an extensive wetland. The owner of this property has protected it for future generations through a donated conservation easement to RLT.
For information and directions, call Doree Cox at 658-2643 or Francille Egbert at 674-3214.
