The official seals of the Towns of Hoosick, Stephentown, Petersburgh and Grafton, among others, could be seen in one of the displays presented by Marvin Bubie in his illustrated talk to the Stephentown Historical Society on Monday. Americans, according to Bubie, having thrown out the King also largely abandoned the ancient tradition of regal and noble heraldry on state seals. Seals of American states, counties, cities and towns often depict historic events and many are just scenic. Some have retained heraldic imagery such as Stephentown’s use of the Van Rensselaer coat of arms borrowed by permission from the family.

Stephentown Historical Society Chicken BBQ And Fireman’s Muster Competition
On Saturday, September 18, and Sunday, September 19, the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting the annual New England Muster Association Fireman’s Competition. The Fireman’s Muster begins with the Water Polo competition at 6 pm Saturday night. On Sunday, the Parade starts at 11 am, followed by the Historical Society Chicken BBQ from 12 to 2 pm. The NEMA Fireman’s Muster Competition resumes at 1 pm. All events are at the Stephentown Fire Hall on Grange Hall Road. Local Students Named To The College Of Saint Rose Dean’s List For Spring 2010
The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY, has announced that Lee Dixon, a resident of Petersburgh, Cicely Parnas, a resident of Stephentown, and Madalyn Parnas, a resident of Stephentown are among 744 students named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2010 semester.
Full time students who complete a minimum of 12 credit hours and achieve a semester grade-point average of at least 3.5 with no grades of D, F, Incomplete or Pass/Fail are eligible for inclusion on the Dean’s List.

Stephentown – Sandra K. Hamer passed away peacefully in the home that she loved in Stephentown, NY, on Saturday, July 31, 2010.
Born in Columbus, OH, Sandy graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1960 and then moved to Cleveland, OH, where she held public relations positions at Diamond Shamrock, Mt. Sinai Hospital and two television stations.

7th Annual Memorial Motorcycle Run For Ryan Gardner And Courtney Carelli
On Saturday, August 7, Stephentown is expected to be filled with over 400 motorcycles for the 7th Annual Memorial Motorcycle Run for Ryan Gardner and Courtney Carelli. This annual event is held to raise money to fund College Scholarships for Berlin High School students to take Hudson Valley Community College courses while attending high school. In the past years, numerous scholarships in Ryan and Courtney’s memory have been awarded, thanks to the generous donations of area businesses.

Illustrated Talk On The Seals Of New York State
Author Marvin Bubie will present an illustrated talk, “On the Trail of Henry Hudson and Our Heritage through the Municipal Seals of New York State,” on Monday, August 2, to the Stephentown Historical Society. Because of a current renovation project at the Heritage Center, the meeting will be held at the Stephentown Fire Hall, 35 Grange Hall Road, Stephentown. Tsatsawassa Protective Fire Company Pig Roast
On Saturday, August 21, the Tsatsawassa Protective Fire Company Inc. will hold its 22nd Annual Pig Roast on the firehouse grounds located just off Route 66 in the hamlet of Brainard. Doors will be open at 1 pm, and the afternoon will be filled with fun events including door prizes and games as well as food and drinks. At about 5 pm the Pig Roast will be served.
