Shaker Museum / Mount Lebanon To Hold Peace Weekend

The Shaker Museum|Mount Lebanon will host a weekend of events and programs to commemorate over 200 years of Shaker pacifism, Saturday, August 29 through Monday, August 31. The Mount Lebanon Peace Weekend will consist of readings, a brunch and facilitated discussion about Shaker pacifist history, a panel of speakers currently active in the peace movement, and a special walking tour. Little Sprouts Baby Bump and Beyond, a children’s boutique offering pre-loved clothing, toys, furniture, baby gear, books, and more, opened on Saturday, August 1. The owner is Renee Parker (née Koronas), a graduate of Hoosick Falls High School (Class of ’02) and the mother of two children, aged four and eight and a half months. What’s Happening At Stephentown Memorial Library

Story Time – Fridays at 10 am.  Calling all preschoolers (and their caregivers)! Join us each Friday for some story time fun! In this half-hour session, we read aloud, sing songs, move about, and explore the world around us through literature. Parents and children are encouraged to stay after story time so children have time for free play while grown-ups browse for books and socialize. Story Time is led by Jane Halleck, a local educator. The Battenkill Chorale is accepting experienced choral singers for their twenty-first season, which opens with a program connected to the sesquicentennial of the Civil War, featuring Ralph Vaughan Williams’ impassioned plea for peace, Dona Nobis Pacem, January 17 at Helen Filene Ladd Concert Hall at Zankel Music Center, Skidmore College. Soloists Sylvia Stoner (Artist-in-Residence at Skidmore) and Keith Kibler will join the 100-voice chorus and 45-piece professional orchestra in this poignant work. Fractal Fest Better Than Most, But Eckhardt Wants Mass Gatherings Law To Regulate Such Events

Organizers of Fractalfest 2015, an art and music event held at Gardner’s farm July 31 to August 2, attended the Stephentown Town Board meeting Monday evening to thank the community for having them. The event was sponsored by Fractaltribe, which calls itself “a community of artists, musicians, and craftsmen dedicated to creating meaningful experiences and immersive atmospheres; celebrations which foster creative expression in a healthy and supportive environment.” The event featured music, local and regional art projects, different food experiences and workshops focusing on topics such as permaculture, yoga and herbal medicine.
