Arlie Greene Chosen Grand Marshal Of Berlin 2015 July 4th Parade

Arlie Greene, 95, has lived in Berlin his entire life. This Saturday, he will be honored as grand marshal in the Berlin July 4th Parade. Arlie will enjoy the parade from his seat in a 1950 Willys Jeepster Convertible, owned and driven by local resident, John Kellar. The annual parade is set for July 4th at 11 am.

Stephentown Historical Society 34th Annual Strawberry Festival

The Stephentown Historical Society’s 34th annual Strawberry Festival became one of its most exciting events in recent memory. On Thursday evening SHS members and members of Girl Scout Troop 1752, along with some members of the Youth 2 Youth Berlin group, picked 150 pounds of strawberries in under 90 minutes at the Berry Patch on Route 22. Fireworks For Sale Locally

No, it’s not Virginia or Carolina. Fireworks are now being sold in Stephentown just next to Gardner’s Ice Cream Shoppe. Governor Cuomo signed legislation last November that allows counties and cities outside of New York City to legalize the sale and use of some fireworks such as sparklers, fountains, snappers and poppers. Glendouglas Farm Celebrates 250 Years

For 250 years the farm on Osgood Road in Stephentown has been in continuous operation run by descendants of the man who started it – Captain William Douglas. Music Festivals Becoming Problematic

“Fool me once, shame on you – Fool me twice, shame on me,” lamented Stephentown Town Supervisor Larry Eckhardt at the Town Board meeting Monday evening. Stephentown’s Youth Summer Camp Accepting Registrations!

Stephentown’s summer youth day camp program will operate again this year under the direction of the Stephentown Memorial Library. Join camp director and certified physical education teacher Laura Hunt and local soccer coach Shawn Willis for four weeks of science, sports, arts, environmental education and lots of play and fun.  Camp activities will take place at the library, the Town Hall and the library’s green fields property.

The summer camp will take place beginning Monday, July 6 through Friday, July 31 this year.  Campers will be served free breakfast and free lunch, provided through the Rensselaer County Office of Family Services. Camp hours will be 9 am to 2 pm Monday through Friday. The camp is free for residents of Stephentown.  For families who would like to drop off their child early, 8 am drop off is available for $15/week (discount available for multiple children in a family.) Non-Stephentown residents can participate at a cost of $75/week, 8 am to 2 pm, space-permitting. Camp registration forms are available at the Stephentown Memorial Library and the town hall. Please call the library for questions or other information – 733-5750.

Opening Of The Corkscrew Rail Trail

It’s been a long haul, but last Saturday morning June 6, a piece of the planned Corkscrew Rail Trail was formally opened for public use.
