Margaret Lehmuth

Stephentown – Margaret Lehmuth, 85, of Stephentown, NY, went to meet her maker on December 30, 2014, after a battle with leukemia.

Margaret worked for Sykes Store in Stephentown for 18 years and W.J. Cowee’s in Berlin, NY, for 20 years.

Margaret was a member of the Stephentown Baptist Church, and she loved to sew, knit, work in her garden and spend time with her family.

She was married to her long time love of 53 years, the late Harold Lehmuth.

Margaret was the daughter of Harold and Alice Eldridge Wemple, mother of Margie Mosher and her husband George, the late Karen Huff and her husband Lonnie, Walter Lehmuth and his wife Bonnie, Nancy Stollsteimer and her husband Tim, Billy Lehmuth and his wife Mary and Janet van Rijsewijk and her husband Derk. She had nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Ruthann Arto and her husband Dick, Robert Wemple and his wife Frances, Jane Thomas and her husband Bill, Frederick Wemple and his wife Lucille, Susan Demick and her husband Richard and David Wemple and his wife Ann.

A service will be held at the Jesus Is Lord Ministry (formerly the First Baptist Church of Stephentown) on January 10 at 12 pm.

U.S. Congressman Gibson At Tree Lighting In Stephentown

A good crowd of close to 100 people, young and old, turned out last Sunday evening to kick off the holiday season in Stephentown with the lighting of the Christmas tree in Veterans Park. On this, the third annual tree lighting celebration, residents were pleased to have U.S. Congressman  Chris Gibson and his family join them in the singing and the fellowship. Stephentown Town Board Action – Avoiding A Cash Flow Problem

The Stephentown Town Board is hoping to get through the year and into January without having to take out a loan to pay bills. Town Supervisor Larry Eckhardt said at the  Town Board meeting on Monday that, “We’re coming down to the wire,” with only about $60,000 left to pay bills.

Stephentown Memorial Library News

The Stephentown Memorial Library will be closed Wednesday, December 24, and Thursday, December 25, for Christmas. We will also be closed Wednesday, December 31, and Thursday, January 1, for New Year’s. We wish you all a joyous and safe holiday season.

Events

• Family Movie Night – On Friday, December 19, at 6:30 pm we will show a recently released movie. Bring the kids for a free movie at the Library. This month the movie is Guardians of the Galaxy, rated PG-13. This movie features a misfit gang of space thieves who conquer the bad guys and save the universe. Running time for this movie is 122 minutes. Popcorn and juice will be served. Family Movie Night is free, and all are welcome!

• Family Movie Matinee – Kids climbing the walls after the holiday excitement? Bring them to the Library for a showing of the sing-along version of Frozen on Saturday, December 27, at 12:30 pm. Experience the epic animated hit from Walt Disney like never before in an all new, full length “Sing-Along Edition!” Join Anna as she sets off on an epic journey, teaming up with mountain man Kristoff and a snowman named Olaf, to find her sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom in eternal winter. Running time is 102 minutes, and the movie is rated PG. Juice and cookies will be served. This event is free, and all are welcome! Parents or caregivers must accompany children under 12.

• Pajama Storytime – Wear your pjs and bring your favorite stuffed animal, along with a parent or caregiver. We will listen to some holiday stories, sing a few holiday songs and enjoy cocoa and cookies. Join us Tuesday, December 30, at 6:30 pm.

Reid Rascoe Promoted By NY Army National Guard

Major General Patrick A. Murphy, The Adjutant General for the State of New York, announced the promotion of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their capability for additional responsibility and leadership.

Reid Rascoe from Stephentown, serving with the Company A, 1-224th Aviation Security and Support Battalion is promoted to the rank of Specialist.

Army National Guard promotions are based on overall performance, attitude, leadership ability, and development potential.

These promotions additionally recognize the best qualified Soldiers and attract and retain the highest caliber Citizen Soldiers for a career in the New York Army National Guard.

Tsatsawassa Protective Fire Company Monthly Breakfast

The Tsatsawassa Protective Fire Company, serving Brainard and East Nassau and surrounding community, will hold its monthly Breakfast on Sunday, December 21, from 8 to 11:30 am at their firehouse on Firehouse Lane behind the post office near the intersection of Routes 20 and 66N in the hamlet of Brainard.

Breakfast offers your choice of pancakes or French toast, together with bacon or sausage, eggs cooked to your order, applesauce and an assortment of beverages for your donation of $7 for adults, $4 for children 5 to 12 and free for children under age five.

Santa To Appear? 

It is our understanding that Santa will arrive about 9 am to greet breakfast diners, most especially the children. Also available during the breakfast hours will be a cookbook offering the cookie recipes entered into the Village of East Nassau’s recent cookie contest as well as a limited number of the commemorative 2014 Bell Park ornaments.

Stephentown Texas Hold’em

The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, December 20, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 35 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5:30 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.

No advance registration is required. A donation of $35 per player will be accepted and give the player 6,000 in chip value. Players can make an additional $10 donation at the door for 2,000 extra in chip value. This tournament will pay one place for every ten players with a minimum of four places and a maximum of nine places.

A free buffet will be served at the first break, and refreshments will be available.

Christmas Cantata In New Lebanon And Stephentown

We would like to invite anyone interested in an afternoon of Christmas music to come join us for the presentation of a Christmas Cantata. The choirs from the Immaculate Conception Church in New Lebanon and the Stephentown Federated Church in Stephentown, under the direction of Bev Westfall, Choir Director at the Stephentown Federated Church, have joined forces to produce a Christmas Cantata of music and readings.

High Pressure Gas Pipeline May Run Through Stephentown

A new high pressure gas pipeline, previously proposed to run through the towns of Chatham, Canaan and New Lebanon, may instead follow a new route further to the north, through the Town of Stephentown. A compressor station would also probably have to be built somewhere in that area to maintain the flow of gas.
