Cub Scout Pack 911 Meeting

Cub Scout Pack 911 will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, September 10, at 6:30 pm in the Stephentown Firehouse. The Cub Scout Pack is open for first through fifth-graders. Dues are $70 for the year.

Local Students On Dean’s List At The College Of Saint Rose

The College of Saint Rose in Albany announced that 779 students have been named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2014 semester.

Full time students who complete a minimum of 12 credit hours and achieve a semester grade point average of at least 3.5 with no grades of D, F, Incomplete or Pass/Fail are eligible for the Dean’s List.

Students from this area who are on the Dean’s List are:

James Mayer Of Stephentown Attending SUNY Oswego

James R. Mayer of Stephentown has reserved a place among more than 1,450 freshman at SUNY Oswego. Fall 2014 classes began August 25. He is a graduate of Berlin Jr./ Sr. High School.

Admission to SUNY Oswego is competitive. U.S. News Media Group counts SUNY Oswego among the top public regional universities in the North for 2014.

Veterans Of Stephentown Texas Hold’em

The Veterans of Stephentown will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, September 6, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 35 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5:30 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.

No advance registration is required. A donation of $35 per player will be accepted and give the player 6,000 in chip value. Players can make an additional $10 donation at the door for 2,000 extra in chip value. This tournament will pay one place for every ten players with a minimum of four places and a maximum of nine places.

A free buffet will be served at the first break, and refreshments will be available.

Route 22 Repaving Begins This Week

Stephentown residents will be glad to see work finally starting this week to fix up Route 22 into a more drivable highway. Motorists, however, can expect some serious traffic delays for a number of weeks.

Stephentown Town Board Action – Bracing For Music

Stephentown is bracing for the annual Bella Terra Music Festival to be held at Gardner’s Field from Thursday, August 21, through Sunday, August 24. The Town Board is optimistic that things will run smoothly and safely and that measures to alleviate the noise, as promised by Festival organizers, will result in fewer complaints from residents.

A Little Night Music Party To Benefit The SML

Join supporters of the Stephentown Memorial Library (SML) for an entertaining evening of “A Little Night Music” on Saturday, September 13. Music for the party will be provided by Doug Schmolze performing a varied repertoire of solo guitar and vocal music. The benefit will be held at Berkshire Mountain House Bed & Breakfast from 7 to 10 pm.

Tickets for the benefit cost $30 per person and include two glasses of wine, plentiful delicious hors d’oeuvres, decadent desserts and hot and cold beverages. Tickets are available at the Library or at the door. There will also be intriguing silent auctions. Proceeds will benefit operation of the Stephentown Memorial Library. Doug Schmolze, tenor and classical guitarist, studied at the Berklee School of Music and is also a Certified Music Practitioner, trained in the Music for Healing and Transition Program. His music for this event will come from the greats of the decades of the 20s, 30s and 40s such as George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and Harold Arlen. Schmolze will also play some international music and classical guitar solos.

Berkshire Mountain House Bed & Breakfast is a spacious contemporary inn, situated on a hilltop with incredible views of the mountains from its broad decks and many windows. The location at 150 Berkshire Way, Stephentown, is reached from Route 22 via Wyomanock Road.

The Doctors Of Early Stephentown

In a presentation to the Stephentown Historical Society on Monday evening entitled “Early Physicians of Stephentown, New York,” Town Historian Pat Flint came up with some 28 doctors that practiced in the area during the 18th and 19th centuries.
