Schodack/Stephentown – Lambert F. Cassidy, Jr., 73, of Schodack, NY, died Saturday, March 8, 2014, at his home after a long illness. Bert was born and raised in Albany, NY, and had worked in the parts department at Crailo Ford and Orange Motors. He retired in 2005 from the NYS Department of Transportation.

An informational meeting was held at the Stephentown Fire Hall on Thursday, February 27, regarding the possibility of developing a multi-use recreational trail through New Lebanon and Stephentown, potentially going all the way to Bennington. Because the trail as proposed would roughly follow the route of the Corkscrew Division of the old Rutland Railroad, it has been tentatively dubbed the Corkscrew Rail Trail. Open Burning Banned Between March 15 and May 15

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) implemented a new open burning regulation that took effect in October 2009. As part of that regulation no open burning is permitted between March 15 and May 15 each year. The regulation also specifies what can and cannot be burned. Tsatsawassa Fire Company Monthly Breakfast
The Tsatsawassa Protective Fire Company will serve its monthly breakfast at the firehouse on Sunday, March 16, from 8 until 11:30 am. Breakfast consists of your choice of French toast or pancakes, together with bacon or sausage, toast, orange juice, beverages and eggs prepared to your order for a cost of $6 with children under five served free.
Support your locate fire company while visiting with friends and neighbors and enjoying a hearty breakfast to start your day. Taconic Valley Soccer Club Spring Soccer
The TVSC is currently accepting registrations for its Spring soccer program for boys and girls k-5th grade who would like to play soccer! Opening Day is April 26, at the Berlin Elementary School, starting at 9 am. No registrations will be accepted at Opening Day.

Haas And Oligny Named To RPI Dean’s List
Dean’s List recipients from the fall 2013 semester at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute include Maccabee Haas of Petersburgh and Larry Oligny of Stephentown. Both study Mechanical Engineering. The Dean’s List recognizes full time students who maintain grade point averages of a minimum of 3.0 out of a possible 4.0.
Veterans of Stephentown Texas Hold’em
The Veterans of Stephentown will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, March 15, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 35 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5:30 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.
No advance registration is required. A donation of $35 per player will be accepted and give the player 6,000 in chip value. Players can make an additional $10 donation at the door for 2,000 extra in chip value. This tournament will pay one place for every 10 players with a minimum of four places and a maximum of 9 places.
A free buffet will be served at the first break, and refreshments will be available.
Lansing Burdick
Stephentown – Lansing “Scotty” Burdick, 92, died peacefully at his farmhouse on Friday, February 28, 2014, with his family at his side. Born in the family homestead on the farm in Stephentown, NY, on May 8, 1921, he was the son of the late Elwin A. and Anna Snell Burdick, Sr. He was a graduate of Berlin High School, Class of 1939, and later graduated from Troy Technical Institute (now HVCC) with a degree in accounting.

Kay was the glue that held this group together,” said Laurie Kimmelstiel. Apparently the glue was strong enough that the group, the Heritage Spinners and Knitters, is still thriving after the tragic death of Kay ten Kraft last June.
