Stephentown Town Board Action – A Resurgence Of Community Spirit

July 19, 2013 By eastwickpress

by David Flint
There seems to be a resurgence of community spirit in Stephentown. Following the opening of three new businesses in Town recently – Cinch’m Up Stables, the Beer Diviner Taproom & Market and Knuckleheads Restaurant – a Beautification Committee is now being formed. The latter was instigated by a most generous offer from Burt and Alice Swersey to donate hundreds of trees and shrubs from their Shadowbrook Nursery – a business now being phased out – to beautify the downtown area. Letter To The Editor – Police State Tactics At School

July 12, 2013 By eastwickpress

Dear Editor:
I share the dismay expressed by Anita Henry over the “Drug Sniff at BCS.”
What was the plan if the dog made a hit? Would the principal assist the sheriff’s deputy applying handcuffs to the student. Would the student(s) be taken away in a patrol car? Is there an attorney on call to assist a student with legal rights? Was the dog’s hit accurate?
What was the plan to deal with a child who refused to participate?
Is the District prepared for the expense of defending this behavior in court?
It is sad to see police state tactics brought to school. This tactic seems over the top when the principal indicates drugs are not a significant problem at the school.
I am dismayed that the Board of Education sponsored this exercise.

June 28, 2013 By eastwickpress

by David Flint
Jonathan Post, aka the Beer Diviner, presided at the grand opening of his Tap Room and Market Saturday in Stephentown. Post opened just last year what he calls a nano-brewery – that’s something smaller than a micro-brewery – up in Cherry Plain on Bly Hollow Road. The brewery remains up in the woods, but Post wanted a location closer to civilization where he could market his brews.
