HFCS Seventh-Graders Clean Up Cemetery

St. Mary’s Cemetery was abuzz with activity Friday, May 7, from 10 am to 2 pm as seventh grade students from Hoosick Falls Central School clambered to wash markers, rake and sweep the grounds and/or research the history of the people buried around them. HFCS BOE Candidates

The four Hoosick Falls Central School Board candidates answered questions in an almost empty cafeteria Wednesday evening, May 12. The School PTA annually sponsors a Meet the Candidates night, moderated by Irene Wynnyczuk of the League of Women Voters. The four candidates, vying for three seats, are Richard Ferrannini. Gregory Laurin, Donald Skott and Dwain Wilwol. Skott and Wilwol currently serve on the Board and are seeking re-election. Laurin has served on the Board many times over the years. Ferrannini is running for the first time.

HFCS Budget Hearing

The Hoosick Falls School Board held its Public hearing on the proposed budget for the 2010-11 school year. The meeting was Thursday, May 6, and it was sparsely attended. In addition to the School Board and administration, there were two citizens, two students and one school Board candidate, Rick Ferrannini, present.

Quackenbush One Hits Cambridge In Softball Win

Well, the Queen of the Diamond and her teammates were at it again yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, May 5, when Charlie Weeden’s Hoosick Falls Central School Panther softball team rode the overpowering, one hit, nineteen strikeout performance of sophomore pitcher Rachel Quackenbush to a 7-0 WASAREN League win over host Cambridge Central School. HFCS PTA Sponsors Meet the Candidates Night

The HFCS PTA is sponsoring Meet the Candidates Night on May 12, at 7 pm in the Junior-Senior High School Cafeteria. Four candidates are vying for three open seats on the Board of Education. The vote will take place on Tuesday, May 18.

Hoosick School Board Action – Positions Eliminated

At its April 22 meeting, the Hoosick Falls School Board voted to abolish the positions of two Special Education teachers, two Elementary Education teachers, two Reading teachers, one Home and Careers teacher, and ten Teaching Assistants. The vote on this motion was 6-0, with Rye Mausert abstaining. These staff reductions had previously been proposed and debated as part of the District’s budget deliberations, and this action is simply the final implementation.

HF Elementary Accepting Universal Pre-Kindergarten Applications

The Hoosick Falls Central School District is currently looking for the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) class of 2010-2011.  UPK is a special program established by the State Education Department to provide an early learning experience for the children of eligible families.  Eligible families are defined as those who live in the Hoosick Falls School District and have children who will be four years old on or before December 1, 2010.

HFCS Battle Of The Belts

Hoosick Falls Central School recently held the Fourth Annual “Battle of the Belts.” Grades 7 to 12 competed on a beautiful day to see who would be crowned this year’s winners.  Winning for the third consecutive year were members of the Class of 2010.  This year is was seniors Taylor Bellemare, Adam Ferrannini, Jenna Priore and Melody Mentiply.
