Next HFCS PTA Meeting

The next business meeting of the HFCS PTA will take place on Tuesday, April 20, in the Elementary School Library beginning at 6:30 pm.
As always, members and non-members are encouraged to join meetings to find out what the PTA is doing for our children and to share ideas for special programs and events to benefit the children and families of our school district.
If you would like to become a member or to learn more about PTA and its programs, please attend this meeting or contact membership chair Heather St. Hilaire at 518-686-7649.

HFCS Faculty Basketball Fund Raiser

The HFCS Class of 2012 is holding its second annual faculty vs. faculty basketball game on April 29. There will be two games this year, a women’s game at 5 pm and a men’s game at 6:15 pm. Admission is $3 a person. There will be a 50/50 raffle and a half court shot competition as well as the sale of snacks and Hoosick Falls T-shirts.
Come support the HFCS faculty as they take on the Lansingburgh faculty – two games you won’t want to miss.

The HFCS PTA invites you and your family to join them “as they put the ‘fun’ back in fund raising” with The Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom Annual SPRING SPIN: One Good Turn to Benefit Another. For each ticket sold, the PTA earns $5 and that allows you to attend any opening day in May – 12 in all.

All-County Concert Held At BCS

On Saturday March 27, Rensselaer County’s finest student musicians performed at the Berlin High School. The annual Rensselaer All-County Concert, which had representatives from thirteen area schools, featured an elementary band, junior chorus, jazz chorus and senior band.  For hundreds of yards, both sides of Route 22 were lined with vehicles. Those in attendance were treated to a series of well performed classical and contemporary musical works.

Ward Stone Featured At Outdoor Expo

Hoosick Falls Central School held its Second Annual Outdoor Expo March 26 and 27. On Friday elementary students, armed with colorful questionnaires asking them to find birds, animals and information, scrambled past the many exhibits that filled the high school gymnasium. Ten Inducted Into Honor Society At HFCS

On Tuesday evening, March 30, two seniors and eight juniors were inducted into the Philip Leonard Chapter of the National Honor Society at Hoosick Falls Central School. HFCS To Drop Teachers For Next Fall

The Hoosick Falls School Board meeting March 18 was mostly focused on the budget for 2010-11, which needs to be completed and adopted in a month.
The latest budget offered by the Administration has no increase in the local tax levy, despite an anticipated drop in State aid of $485,000 and the usual cost increases.
To accomplish this, the plan is to lay off a Reading teacher and a Home and Careers teacher, and to lay off ten Teaching Assistants. This is in addition to the reduction in staff from not replacing 3 teachers who retired, and two who resigned.

Erin Shea Named Hoosick Falls High School Valedictorian

Erin Shea, daughter of Michael and Joanne Shea of Hoosick Falls, is this year’s Valedictorian of the class of 2010 at Hoosick Falls High School.  Erin has a grade point average of 95.47 and will receive a New York State Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors designation. Megan McEachron Named Hoosick Falls High School Salutatorian

Megan McEachron, daughter of Rick and Holly McEachron of Hoosick Falls, is the class of 2010 Salutatorian.  Megan, whose GPA is 94.53, will receive a New York State Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors designation. “B-I-N-G-O” – More Than 110 Said It Loud And Often!

The HFCS PTA proudly sponsored its Family Fun Bingo on Saturday, March 20. The annual function was attended by more than 110 kids, moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas and others out for some family fun! This free event, that brings local families together to win great prizes and have loads of fun, continues to be a favorite annual gathering.
