Panther Boys Hoop Team Beats Horses In Double Overtime

In the thirteenth WASAREN League game of the 1988-89 boys varsity basketball campaign, and last weekend of the regular season, a gritty, home-standing Hoosick Falls team beat Stillwater Central School in double overtime by a 63-60 score in front of a packed River Road gymnasium. Well, last Friday night, January 29, Mike Lilac Jr.’s Panther five used the same strategy to defeat a determined Schuylerville Central School quintet 61-57 in two extra four minute periods. Panther Boys Basketball Team Tames Bengals

The Hoosick Falls Central School Panther boys basketball team raised their WASAREN League record to 10-1 this past Tuesday evening, February 2, Ground Hog Day, when they scored a 56-34 triumph over the Brittonkill-Tamarac Central School boys hoop team on the Bengals’ home court. Hoosick Falls, leading the league by a game over Schuylerville Central School (9-2), fell behind the hosts by a 10-9 margin after eight minutes before rallying for a 26-17 halftime spread. Then HFCS turned on the offense in period three and led by a 45-27 score with one quarter to be played. Hoosick Falls outscored the hosts by an 11-7 margin over the final eight minutes to record their 56-34 win.

Panther Girls Hoop Team Loses To Schuylerville

Coach Kerry Brannigan’s Hoosick Falls Central School girls varsity basketball team came up short last Friday night, January 29, in a loss to Schuylerville Central School, 46-35. The loss left the Panther girls at 0-10 in WASAREN League play and at 1-13 overall.

HFCS Girls Basketball Loses To Tamarac

Wednesday night’s JV and Varsity games against Tamarac brought out the pink. This week the HF basketball teams are participating in the fund raiser Coaches Vs. Cancer. The players sported pink ribbons in their hair, pink socks and/or pink shoe laces. The game ball was pink and white and the referees used pink whistles to call the game. Hoosick Falls School Librarian Martha Von Schilgen corrected our description last week of the new resources available through the School Library’s web site. She wrote, “One small error in the Hoosick Falls School Board news – our students cannot access the school library’s online catalog, but they can access the public library on line catalog from their home computers. Students are able to access the school’s library catalog from anywhere in school on the school’s internal network.”

Albany-Tula Alliance Announces Student Essay Contest

High school students in the Capital Region will have an opportunity to win a trip to Russia for two weeks this summer through an essay contest sponsored by the Albany-Tula Alliance. Students aged 16 to 18 who wish to compete will be asked to write a 1,500 word essay identifying and discussing an issue that Presidents Medvedev and Obama can work on together that will improve the lives of both Russians and Americans in terms of knowledge, resources and trust. HFCS Raises Senior Exemption Income Limits

Strengthening Families

A free, six week program for parents/guardians and children ages 10 to 14 is coming to Hoosick Falls Central School in February.
The program will improve adult relationships with adolescents, provide ideas about how to improve communication and resolve conflicts, and, because it involves young people, they learn new skills, too.
Dinner will be provided for the first and last sessions while refreshments will be available for the intervening sessions.

Panther Bowlers Are Southern Division Champs

On Thursday, January 21, the Hoosick Falls bowling team beat Luzerne by the score of 4-0. This was their last regular league match of the season giving them a record of 49-7. The victory means that the Panthers are the Southern Division champion of the Adirondack League and will bowl Fort Edward on Thursday, February 4, at Hi-Roc Lanes in Saratoga starting at 4 pm for the overall championship of the league.

Panther Boys Hoop Team Beats Cambridge, Faces Schuylerville Friday Night

The Hoosick Falls Central School boys basketball team got back to their winning ways last Friday night, January 22, when they traveled to Cambridge Central School and took the measure of the Indians by a 57-42 score. Mike Lilac Jr.’s Panther five raised their WASAREN League mark to 8-1 with the win and to 10-2 overall. HFCS had been coming off their only league loss to date with a 48-47 loss to Hoosic Valley being in their rear view mirror.
