HFCS basketball players from both the boys and girls basketball teams were honored with individual awards over the past couple of weeks. Both teams were undefeated in regular season Wasaren League play, each only lost once in the regular season, and each team won a sectional title.

Last year it began as a whim for HFCS teachers Damien Bundrick, Bill Clairmont and Rob Viera. They and other teachers and students grew beards for No-Shave November to promote cancer awareness. From there it grew into the Beard Off when the three kept their beards through March. For two lunchtimes they sold $1 tickets for a drawing when a student could shave off their beards in any fashion. They raised $400 and they decided to donate it to the scholarship fund for their friend and mentor Isabel McGuire who passed away that month. Perhaps a hundred students watched the after school event. And the three courageous teachers sported their odd looking shaves the following day at school.

Early Friday afternoon, the Lady Panthers put on a memorable shooting exhibition. Playing Irvington, the number one ranked team in NYS Class B, in the state semifinals at Hudson Valley Community College, the Panthers played well in the first half, holding a slim 20 – 17 lead at the end of the second quarter. The upcoming trip to Hawaii for students at Hoosick Falls Central School is exciting. Some of them have never been in a plane. Others have never been out of the continental United States. Others have barely traveled at all. They are anxious to see everything there is to see and everything there is to do. They want to try snorkeling and surfing, among other things. But most of all they are pleased to be bringing the Town of Hoosick Tribute Flag “Liberty” with them and to see it flown at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl Crater in Honolulu.
