Liporace Foundation Scholarship Finalists Network In New York

Five students from the Class of 2012 at Hoosick Falls Central School (HFCS) recently attended a networking day in New York City where they met with five professionals who shared stories about their careers, offered advice on how to be successful and pledged to stay in contact with the students to help them plan their college and post-college careers.

Hoosick Falls Central School National Honor Society Induction

On Monday evening, November 21, the Phillip Leonard Chapter of the Hoosick Falls Central School National Honor Society held its annual Induction ceremony. Three seniors and eleven juniors were tapped for membership, brought to the stage by current members and helped into their gowns. All the members then recited the National Honor Society pledge, and the new members were accepted by High School Principal Stacy Vadney. Panther Bowlers Start Season With Win

The Hoosick Falls bowling team started the 2011-2012 season with a good win on the road at Hoosic Valley by the score of 4-0.  Hoosick Falls had a match total of 3,614 pins to Hoosic Valley’s total of 3,157. The top bowler for Hoosic Valley was Tatios Barkaman with a 252-636.  Top bowlers for Hoosick Falls were Joe Wolfrum 247-643, Josh Conn 258-615, Bryan Callahan 237-606, Mikaela Marbot 235-590, Ken Marbot 213-581 and Josh McCart 269-579. HFCS Bowling Team Season Preview

The Hoosick Falls bowling team has both experienced bowlers and upcoming J.V. bowlers from last year who are ready to defend their league tournament, league championship and sectional titles from last year.  Members of the team who will be helping defend these titles are  seniors Joe Wolfrum, Co-captain, Mikaela Marbot, Co-captain, Mitch Andrew, Jordan Colvin and Charlie Stowell, juniors Bryan Callahan, Josh Conn and Josh Reveal, freshman Ken Marbot, eighth-graders Josh McCart, Jen Sargood and Stephen Surdam. New to the team this year is seventh-grader Jonathan Bossoni.

Veterans Never Forgotten At HFCS

On Thursday, November 10, the Hoosick Falls Elementary School held its traditional Veterans Day assembly. Kindergarten students wore their hand made Uncle Sam hats. Mrs. Burdick’s third grade class entered the high school auditorium carrying American flags. Later they told the history of Veterans Day, which began in 1918 as Armistice Day. Teachers Michelle Culver and Leslie Green sang the Star Spangled Banner. Veterans Walt Zwinge, Dan Severson and Ed Flynn told of their military history. Teacher Bill Brown played Taps, and elementary music teacher Ray Connolly led all the students in the singing of several patriotic songs including “This Land is Your Land,” complete with hand signs. The assembly is always very moving for everyone involved. This year was no exception.

Lady Panthers Are Co-Champs After Tough 0-0 Marathon

After sailing to victory in the NYS Class C semi-final match on Saturday against Tully High School the Hoosick Falls girls soccer team, ranked #2 in the State, faced a formidable foe on Sunday. On Saturday Long Island’s Friends Academy, ranked #4, knocked off #1 Keshequa High School 3-2 to meet HF in the Championship game.

Panther Football Falls In Semi-Final Heartbreaker

The Hoosick Falls football team’s great 2011 season came to a sudden halt on Saturday at Dietz Stadium in Kingston, NY. The Panthers took on Dobbs Ferry in the State semifinal game, with a ticket to the State Championship at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse on the line.

HFCS Implements Teacher Evaluation System

Hoosick Falls Schools Superintendent Ken Facin said at the School Board meeting this month that the District has a signed agreement with the Hoosick Falls teachers union on how the new teacher evaluations will be done.
A State requirement for an annual performance review of teachers in public schools is being phased in starting this year. There are some requirements imposed by the State on how these are to be done, but a lot of the details of how the evaluations are done is under local control, and these are negotiated between the District and the Union.

Hoosick Falls Takes Regional Title With a 5-0 Win Over Tupper Lake

With the Regional Championship victory against Section X’s Tupper Lake on Friday, November 11, the Hoosick Falls Girls Soccer Team heads for the final four State championship this weekend in Cortland. The neat part about winning the Regional 5-0 was that every player on the Hoosick Falls team had time in that game.
