HFCS Boys Basketball Banquet Held Wednesday
HFCS Accepting Universal Pre-Kindergarten Applications
The Hoosick Falls Central School District is currently looking for the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) class of 2013-2014. UPK is a special program established by the State Education Department to provide an early learning experience for the children of eligible families. Eligible families are defined as those who live in the Hoosick Falls School District and have children who will be four years old on or before December 1, 2013.
HFCS will be running UPK classes during the 2013-2014 school year at sites to be determined and will accept the applications, verify eligibility, and place children as slots are available. Parents/Guardians will be notified of the status of their child once slots have been filled. If more requests are made than can be placed, a random lottery will be used to select children for the program. Application and registration packets can be obtained at the Elementary School Office beginning on Monday, April 15.
The completed registration forms and the Universal Pre-Kindergarten application must be returned by 3 pm on Friday, June 7, to Amy Netti, Elementary Principal, HFCS, Universal Pre-K Program, P.O. Box 192, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090.
Deadline For Elmer A Grogan Scholarship Is May 1
Applications by a graduating senior from the Brunswick Central School District or the Berlin Central School District who is continuing on with his or her education are being accepted for the scholarship award of $250 for the best essay on “What Freedom Means To Me.” The essay should not be less than 250 words or more than 500 words. The scholarship is being given by the Carner, Etman, Smith V.F.W. Post 6340 in memory of a former member, Elmer A.Grogan.
The deadline for applications is May 1. Applications are available at the guidance counselor offices of both high schools and should be mailed to Carner, Etman, Smith V.F.W. Post 6340, P.O. Box 361, Grafton, NY, 12082, Attn: Commander Richard Terpening.
Berlin Students Head To Puerto Rico

HFCS PTA April Family Movie Night
The Hoosick Falls Central School PTA announces its April family night film series co-sponsored with the Hoosick Federal Credit Union. Here is an opportunity for families to enjoy an outing free of charge.
The movie scheduled is Wall-E, described by film critic Roger Ebert as, “an enthralling animated film, a visual wonderment and a decent science-fiction story.” The film airs on Friday, April 19, at 6 pm in the High School Auditorium. Doors open at 5:30 pm, and drinks, popcorn and pizza will be for sale in the Elementary School Cafeteria with the proceeds going to the Hoosick Falls PTA. This movie is rated G.
The event is open to the general public and school spirit items will be available for sale.
ADAPT To Benefit From Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament
On Saturday, April 13, HAYC3 and ADAPT will hold a Texas Hold ’em Tournament Fundraiser with hosts Rick Ferrannini and Rick Tinkham at the Hoosick Falls Armory, 80 Church Street, Hoosick Falls.
The doors will open at noon for registration, and game play begins at 1 pm. No advance registration is required. The entry fee is $35 with a $10 add-on option and a $5 high hand pot. Refreshments will be for sale with proceeds benefiting ADAPT. Fifty percent of a 50-50 raffle will also benefit ADAPT.
ADAPT is the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Team of Hoosick Falls Central School Class of 2014 parents/guardians hosting the substance-free after-prom celebration. Family Feud Charity Event
The Taconic Valley Chapter of the National Honor Society has decided to raise money for charity as it’s chapter service project for the 2012-2013 school year.
On Friday, April 12, at the Berlin MS/HS auditorium, “families” consisting of employees of the Berlin School District, will come together to raise money for their favorite charities by playing our version of the “Family Feud.” This event will begin at 6:30 pm and admission is $2 for adults and $1 for students.
Please help us by coming out for what promises to be a fun and exciting evening.
Refreshments will be sold, and all proceeds will be divided between the winning “families’” charities.
