My hat goes off to the Board members of the Berlin Central School District for having the tenacity and courage to stand with their conviction on voting against the proposed Bond issue on the Berlin Elementary School. We, as the taxpayers, could not know all the particulars and may have never been properly informed about the long-term loss of renovating and updating the old building. Letter To The Editor – A Lot To Say About The School Board
To the Editor,
I just came home from the BCS board meeting. I have a lot to say about the whole bond issue.
For many years, there were referendums put to the voters for repairs needed in our schools. It was always voted down. Then John Nash and Beverly Stewart started telling about all the health and safety problems. That finally opened up the voters’ eyes. John and Bev started the ball rolling. I really appreciate that.

HFCS 2012 Graduation Schedule
Hoosick Falls Central School announces its graduation schedule for 2012. Baccalaureate will be held on Wednesday, June 20, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 70 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Baccalaureate will begin at 7 pm, and graduates are expected to be there by 6:45 pm wearing their graduation gowns.

BCS Board Members Explain Their No Votes

On December 13, 2011, residents of the Berlin School District went to the polls and approved by a substantial margin a $6.8 million capital project to fix up its aging schools. The tally was 307 “yes” and 173 “no.” A bond for $5 million would need to be floated as a means of financing the project, though a large part of the expenditure was expected to be reimbursed by State aid.

HFCS Kindergarteners Raise $1,800 For Children’s Hospital During Bike Safety Trike-A-Thon

Friday, May 4, was the third annual kindergarten Trike-A-Thon at Hoosick Falls Central School. The morning started with a New York State Trooper visiting the kindergarten classes to teach them about bicycle safety and discuss the importance of always wearing their helmets when riding their bikes.

Elite Runner Visits Elementary School Students At HFCS

On Friday, June 1, fifth and sixth grade students at HFCS had an opportunity to ask questions of elite runner Lisa Harvey of Vancouver, British Columbia. She spoke with them in the high school auditorium. Harvey was in the area for the 34th Annual Freihofer’s Run for Women last Saturday, June 2. Olympic Runner Visits Walter B. Howard Elementary School

Local School Winners
It is with great pride that local school winners were announced by Bennington Elks 567 this week. Winners of the Americanism essay, entitled “Why It Is Important To Say The Pledge Of Allegiance,” were McKenzie Bradley and Anna Wysocki in grades 5-8 at St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls. Both received a $25 check from the Lodge. All participants were awarded a beautiful certificate of participation.

Not The Panthers’ Day In The Sectional Finals

The HFCS Panthers faced the Voorheesville Blackbirds in the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy for the Section II Class C finals on May 31, a beautiful day for a baseball game. Each team had faced an uphill battle just to be in the game, with Hoosick Falls seeded sixth and Voorheesville seeded eighth. Both teams were excited just to be playing in the final at the spacious stadium, and each team had a nice showing of fans. At the end of the game though, Voorheesville was the victor, recording a 6 – 1 win over the Panthers.

HFCS Finals And Regents/RCT Exams – June 13 – 21
The Hoosick Falls Central School District Finals & Regents/RCT Exams will be given Wednesday, June 13, through Thursday, June 21. There will be no classes during this time period. Regular morning bus transportation to school will be provided. Return bus service will be provided at 11:30 am, 2:15 pm and 3:15 pm.
