This year, for the first time, the Hoosick Falls Jr./Sr. High School has made the US News & World Report rankings of the best public high schools in America. HFCS received a Silver Medal and was ranked number 1,680 among the 21,776 schools evaluated, putting it in the top 8% of the schools evaluated nationwide. It was ranked number 211 among the 1,165 schools evaluated in New York State, putting it in the top 18% statewide.

The HFCS 2012 Prom – Whispers Of The Sea

The weather was absolutely perfect for the 2012 Hoosick Falls Central School Prom on Saturday, May 19. The Grand March took place at the school at 4:30 pm. Panther Softball Crushes Sectional Foe

The Hoosick Falls Lady Panther softball team finished the regular season late last week with a 14 – 6 record. Of special note, at the end of the regular season, senior pitcher Rachel Quackenbush had a strikeout total of 1,482. In the New York State record books, this would put her in second place all time. The number one total, set in 2008, is 1,603. Rachel has signed to play for the Division I Siena Saints softball squad.

Mike Bornt Retiring
Mike Bornt, a Hoosick Falls Central School bus driver for 30 years, is retiring in June. Family, friends and former students who rode on his bus are invited to celebrate with Mike on Sunday, June 3. The party will be from 2 until 4 pm at the Hoosick Falls Fire House. Please come and help celebrate with him and wish him well.
BCS Agriculture Club Heirloom Plant Sale
The Berlin Middle/Senior High School Agriculture Club is sponsoring an Heirloom Plant sale. Club members have started several species of heirloom tomatoes from seed and are selling the plants for $3 each. Goodermote And Fiske Elected To BCS Board

Voters in the Berlin Central School District Tuesday re-elected School Board President Gina Goodermote, and voted out Board Member Rachel Finney of Stephentown, replacing her with Katie Fiske of Petersburgh. The budget and two resolutions all passed easily.

HFCS Budget Passes Easily

The Hoosick Falls Central School Budget passed with 459 votes in favor and 193 votes against. The proposition for purchase of buses and vehicles passed with 464 votes in favor and 184 votes against. Greg Laurin and Laurie Gormley were re-elected to the School Board. Each will have a new 3 year term from July 1, 2012, to June 30, 2015. Laurin received 463 votes and Gormley received 487 votes.

Pet Donations
The second-graders at St. Mary’s Academy have been busy this year feeding cats and dogs in shelters. Since September the students have been visiting the website www.freekibble.com, a website launched by an 11 year old girl in Oregon who just wanted to help the shelter pets in her community. New Lebanon Central School Budget Vote Results

Proposition 1, the budget, passed 249 to 84. Proposition 2, an amendment to the Capital Reserve Fund, passed 205 to 82. Proposition 3, establishing a student ex officio School Board Member, passed 209 to 77.
Two seats on the School Board were up for election. One was won by Tracy Bingham with 249 votes. The other was won by Monique Wood with 227 votes.
