TRACS Will Send People To National Leadership Conference

The TRACS Coalition, an organization in the Berlin School District combating youth drinking and drug abuse, is looking to send eight to ten adults and two to four youths to the EUDL (Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws) National Leadership Conference in Orlando August 10-12. The cost of registration ($250) will be covered by TRACs up front. The cost of travel, meals and hotel will be reimbursed (specific rates and information for reimbursement will be available to interested parties).

Berlin Elementary School Incoming Kindergarten Parent Information Night

Berlin Elementary School will be hosting a Parent Information Night for incoming kindergarten students for the 2011-2012 school year.  The information night will be held Thursday, May 12, from 6 to 7 pm in the Berlin Elementary Gym. Child care will be provided by our PTO.  Please let us know if you plan to attend by calling 658-2127.  We would love to have you join us!

Team Spirit T-Shirts For Hoosick Falls Elementary School

Once again, the Hoosick Falls Elementary School Physical Education staff is looking for sponsors for the Team Spirit Shirt Fund for this school year. This fund will supply team T-shirts for students to have during our annual Field Days held at the end of the school year. As we did last year, each child will be able to keep his or her shirt.

BES PTO BBQ

The Berlin Elementary School PTO is sponsoring a Giffy’s Chicken BBQ on Friday, May 20, from 5 to 7 pm during the Family-A-Faire/Imagination Celebration. Dinner includes a half chicken, baked potato, coleslaw, roll, cookie and a beverage. Tickets cost $10. All tickets must be purchased before the event and brought with you to receive your meal. Tickets are available at the Berlin, Petersburgh and Stephentown libraries during their regular hours or by calling Samantha Bink at 733-6729.

Hoosick Falls Elementary School Is Accepting Universal Pre-Kindergarten Applications

The Hoosick Falls Central School District is currently looking for the Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) class of 2011-2012. UPK is a special program established by the State Education Department to provide an early learning experience for the children of eligible families. Eligible families are defined as those who live in the Hoosick Falls School District and have children who will be four years old on or before December 1, 2011.

BCS Needs Some School Spirit

At the start of the Tuesday meeting of the Berlin Central School District School Board a delightful short film was screened. “All of our stuff is broken!” voiced a young student in it from the Berlin Elementary School. She was talking about all their playground stuff, but she could have easily been speaking in regard to the building itself. She would probably be surprised though just how broken it could possibly be. The School Spirit Committee had put the film together as part of their campaign to get new playground equipment. Letter To The Editor – Just My Perspective……

To the editor,
Last year at this time, 3 weeks away from the BCSD budget vote, BOE election and Capital Improvement referendum vote, it was hard to predict what would happen on May 18th!  When polls closed I was still awake and pleased to hear that the voters in the Berlin Central School District had sent a very important message. They elected 2 new BOE members that were offering ideas that could make the BCSD a much more dynamic place to educate children. They re-elected a BOE member who had been advocating for change throughout her entire first term. The voters said “NO” to the budget that opened the door to a building plan that was incomplete and would place a financial burden on the community.
