In the Class C wrestling Sectionals at Granville on Saturday, Hoosick Falls finished ninth out of thirteen teams in the tournament. While that may not appear to be a great achievement, it should be noted that the Panthers are sending five individual wrestlers on to compete in the Section II Championships this Friday and Saturday, February 12 ad 13, at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Panther Boys Hoop Team Gets By Greenwich

Well, with the upcoming Winter Olympics beginning this Friday, February 12, Lincoln’s Birthday, it is only fair to talk about style points. You know, the kind awarded to ice skaters. Unfortunately, in last Friday’s Hoosick Falls Central School boys basketball win over Greenwich Central School, there might have been few handed out to either team. Second Half Tiger Surge Slams Door On Berlin

While the Berlin boys basketball team has struggled to put together any success this season, their rival New Lebanon Tigers have seemed to finally find their way in the Central Hudson Valley League. With just three games remaining, the Tigers were tied for the top spot entering Monday night’s game with Berlin. As always with these two teams, standings were meaningless as the long time rivals began to do battle.

Mountaineers Fall To Pieces At Doane Stuart

Trying to end their six game losing streak against the last team they beat was the goal of the Berlin boys basketball team on Tuesday night at the new Doane Stuart school. Instead, the Mountaineers may have turned in one of their worst performances of the season.

A Berlin Staff Volleyball Game sponsored by the Student Council and Senior Class will be played on February 25 at 6:30 pm in the Berlin High School Gym. Admission is $3.
Correction In DARE Graduation Story
In the story on the DARE graduation ceremonies at Berlin Elementary School (February 5) we reported that Joann Popov provided a solo trumpet accompaniment to the singing of “We are the Future.” In fact it was Ioann Popov and Michael Zlotnick who provided a trumpet duet. Berlin Elementary DARE Program

Sixty-seven fifth graders at Berlin Elementary School received their diplomas from the DARE Program on Friday, January 29. D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is a series of classroom lessons that teaches children from kindergarten through twelfth grade how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives. The lessons are led by a law enforcement officer – in Rensselaer County by Sheriff’s Deputy Jim Phelps.

The Hoosick Falls High School chorus, along with high school choirs from across New York, will perform with Tim Janis and his ensemble in a new special called “Celebrate America,” created by Janis to spotlight our nation’s youth and pull communities together in a celebration of music that uplifts and inspires.

New Lebanon School Board To Hold Meeting With Berlin School Board

The New Lebanon and Berlin School Boards have decided to hold a joint Board meeting. The object of the meeting is to discuss ways the school districts could share resources. The discussion topics include New Lebanon’s desire to absorb Berlin students who live in Stephentown, the possibility of sharing AP courses with students traveling to the other school as need be to take advanced courses, a grant application that would allow the districts to share transportation services and the possibility of more athletic teams merging. Panther Bowlers Win Adirondack League Tournament
The Hoosick Falls bowling team won the Adirondack League Bowling Tournament on Tuesday, February 2. The score for the five HFCS bowlers each bowling three games was 3,132, followed by Fort Edward – 3,024, Schuylerville – 2,950, Stillwater – 2,634, Corinth – 2,633, Hoosic Valley – 2,608, Granville – 2,495, Hadley-Luzerne – 2,294, North Warren – 2,282, Whitehall – 1,982 and Lake George – 1,859.
