Panther Bowlers Are Southern Division Champs

On Thursday, January 21, the Hoosick Falls bowling team beat Luzerne by the score of 4-0. This was their last regular league match of the season giving them a record of 49-7. The victory means that the Panthers are the Southern Division champion of the Adirondack League and will bowl Fort Edward on Thursday, February 4, at Hi-Roc Lanes in Saratoga starting at 4 pm for the overall championship of the league.

Panther Boys Hoop Team Beats Cambridge, Faces Schuylerville Friday Night

The Hoosick Falls Central School boys basketball team got back to their winning ways last Friday night, January 22, when they traveled to Cambridge Central School and took the measure of the Indians by a 57-42 score. Mike Lilac Jr.’s Panther five raised their WASAREN League mark to 8-1 with the win and to 10-2 overall. HFCS had been coming off their only league loss to date with a 48-47 loss to Hoosic Valley being in their rear view mirror.

Panther Girls Hoop Team Is Competitive In Loss To Cambridge

FCCLA Talent Show

“Up, Up and Away” is the theme for this year’s FCCLA Talent Show.  The show this year will be held for one night only, Saturday, February 6, at 7 pm.  Proceeds from this community show will send members to the annual leadership conference.  There are still some spaces for talent, or just come and enjoy the show. Tickets cost $4 for students and adults … preschoolers enter free. Call Dianne Mosher at 658-2515 ext. 241 for more information.

Hoosick Falls Elementary School Registration For September 2010 Kindergarten Class

Hoosick Falls Elementary School has started the process of creating a registry/mailing list of new students for the September 2010 kindergarten class. If you have a child who will be five years old by December 1, 2010, please call the Elementary School office as soon as possible at 686-9492 to ensure your child’s name is placed on our mailing list.  Registration packets will be mailed out beginning February 12. Kindergarten screening will occur on Tuesday, May 18, and Wednesday, May 19.

St. Mary’s Academy Fifth-Graders Celebrate NYS Test Results

St. Mary’s Academy fifth-graders are celebrating their New York State Social Studies Assessment results.
In November the test was given to all NYS fifth-graders.  All St. Mary’s fifth-graders passed the assessment. Sixty percent of students received a top score of 4, meaning they met the NYS Standards with Distinction.  Forty percent of students received a score of 3 meaning they met the NYS Standards.  Congratulations to St. Mary’s fifth grade middle school students for a job well done!

Catering Class To Hold Valentine Lunch

On Wednesday, February 10, the Catering Class at Berlin HS will hold a Valentine Lunch and all Senior Citizens are invited. The lunch will be held at the HS library beginning at 11:30 am. Guests are asked to make a $4 donation.  Reservations are required and can be made by calling 658-2515 ext. 241 or emailing dmosher@berlincentral.org.
Catering is a full year elective class taught in the Family and Consumer Science curriculum.  The class consists of 15 students predominately in eleventh and twelfth grades.

Superbowl® Sub Sale

St. Mary’s Academy will be holding a Superbowl® Sunday Sub Sale on February 7. All subs must be pre-ordered but will be made your way. Twelve inch subs with turkey, ham, roast beef, veggie or Italian mix are available with all the fixings for $7 each.  Subs will be available for pick up on Sunday, February 7, from 11 am to 1 pm at St. Mary’s. Berlin School District Ripe With Fun Learning Opportunities

There was little talk of multimillion dollar renovation projects, but the Berlin Board meeting still had plenty of pizzazz. The faculty is currently involved in a number of fun and intellectually stimulating projects and activities. Area residents should be happy to hear about the many learning opportunities open to Berlin’s students. Moreover, math scores appear to be rising, and the District hopes these improvements continue. But at Tuesday’s School Board meeting several community members voiced their concern with the District’s policies and financial plans.
