Gilbert Wins First Ever State Championship for Berlin

No Track, No Problem For Berlin Senior

In the fifteen years that Jen Burhans has coached the Berlin Track team, she has never had a track for her teams to call home. Practice used to consist of running around the parking lot but, in recent years, has been moved to the lower soccer field, which much of the time they share with a baseball team. HFCS Board Honors Service And Achievement

The Hoosick Falls School Board Meeting this week began with the presentation of scholar athlete awards, and foremost among them was the Girls Softball team, which came in for much praise, as they won the Scholar-Athlete team award as well as a Sportsmanship award. BCS Runners Take Home Big Trophies At Sports Awards

At the Berlin High School’s spring sports awards on Thursday night, June 11, the school honored not only the spring sports athletes, but gave the CHVL Senior Awards and the Most Outstanding Athlete trophies as well.

Lady Tigers, Lady Mountaineers Softball All-Stars

Two players from the New Lebanon Lady Tigers softball team were named First Team CHVL All-Stars along with one from the Berlin squad. Geneva Furlano and Maggie Springer of New Lebanon and Emily Dooley of Berlin were all on the First Team. The Second Team consisted of New Lebanon players Anne Walker Laier and Kim Blank. Joining them were Deanna Nash and Brittney Spaniol of Berlin.

Oops!

In the May 22 newsprint issue it was reported in the story on the Berlin Central School Board election that John Nash lost the vote to Gina Goodermote by a count of 946 to 612. The vote count was in fact 612 votes for Goodermote and 334 votes for Nash. The total number of votes was 946. We regret the error.

HFCS Softball Wins Regionals

Panther softball  defeated St. Lawrence 4-3 Wednesday afternoon to clinch the Class C regional championship.
With the game tied up in the top of the 7th inning, Quackenbush hit a double allowing Jenna Priore to score. Quackenbush, pitching, allowed only three hits and struck out 13.
The Panthers now will play against Section IX champion Rhinebeck in the State Class C semifinals at Waterloo High School on Saturday.
