B—I—N—G—O – Say It Loud, Say It Often!

The HFCS PTA is pleased to host its annual “fun-for-the-whole-family” Family Fun Bingo on Saturday, February 7, from 9 to 11:30 am in the Hoosick Falls Junior-Senior High School Cafeteria. Come one, come all – kids with their moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, and more, join the fun — play BINGO with your family and friends and win great prizes donated by many local vendors!

Snacks and beverages will be served and school spirit items will be for sale. Paper bingo cards will be used this year, so please bring blotters if you have them. Folks are also welcome to participate in the raffles. Don’t forget to bring your Box Tops for Education, and Campbell product labels that help the PTA purchase school supplies and equipment.

Mountain Road School Sets Open House For February 10

Families interested in nature-based, out-of-the-box education are invited to an Open House at Mountain Road School on Tuesday, February 10, from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Prospective families (kids are welcome too) can enjoy a cup of tea, learn about the school, tour the classrooms and campus, and meet with teachers and students.

Elmer A. Grogan Scholarship

Applications are being accepted for the scholarship award of $250 for the best essay on “What Freedom Means To Me” by a graduating senior from Brunswick Central School District or Berlin Central School District who is continuing on with his or her education.  The essay should not be less than 250 words or not more than 500 words.  The scholarship is being given by the Carner, Etman, Smith V.F.W. Post 6340 in memory of a former member Elmer A. Grogan.

The deadline for applications is May 4.  Applications are available at the guidance counselor offices of both high schools and should be mailed to:

Berlin Central School Teachers Take The Polar Plunge

On Saturday, January 24, nine Berlin CSD teachers voluntarily ran into the icy waters of Long Pond in Grafton Lakes State Park for the 8th Annual Polar Plunge to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

New Lebanon Junior High School Wins Regional Future City Competition

In the year 2115, 100,000 people will live in the city of Recolteville (meaning “city of harvest” in French) located on the New York State shoreline of Lake Champlain. The city uses self-sustaining farming techniques to create food, such as kale and fish, for its residents. The majority of the city runs on environmentally friendly fuel cells, and the rest runs on solar power. Residents enjoy the scenic views of the city on a Maglev train and utilize a communication system with hologram technology to bring concerts and sporting events to its entertainment arena.

Natasha The Robot Teaches Programming To Berlin Central School Students

On Wednesday, January 21, Berlin Middle School/High School students in Mrs. Wetmore’s technology classes received a lesson from an unusual teacher.

Natasha, the 23 inch tall NAO humanoid robot, and her human partner Hillary Dee from Northeastern Regional Information Network (NERIC), showed students the future in computer programming and robotics.

The Panther Boys Basketball Team Wins a Thriller In Lake George

A very busy stretch for the Panthers boys concluded Saturday evening in Lake George. Over the past 11 days the team played 7 games, concluding with the team adding another two victories to their undefeated season. Over the past weekend the boys easily defeated Mechanicville and, in a thriller, pulled out a win over Lake George. With midterm tests beginning Monday and no games scheduled during this week, the boys will get a much deserved rest until Friday.

Panther Ladies Basketball Beats Mechanicville

Berlin’s Kyle Burdick Is BCS December Scholar Athlete

BCS Senior Kyle Burdick has played soccer since he was four years old. His experience and commitment was evident this year as the team was undefeated during the regular season becoming CHVL league champions. The team also reached the third round of sectionals, only losing to Lake George – their toughest competitor.
